deffinately move that oil drain to above the oil level, that sucks right there.

About the drain I am waiting for a reply on whether that location is proven yet or not otherwise it will be moved. Here was one of the guys at the shop's theory "the oil pump i salways pulling oil and there is also always presure going in to the turbo whitch in turn shoudl push and pull the oil back into the pan. " It was the shop owners decision to install it there? We'll see the outcome of that location.

the oil wont fully drain and circulate there so it will cook, and probably smoke out through the bearings of the turbo.
i have never seen anyone put it there.

wow, I'd be sure to get a flex section on that WG tube. you can pic up different diameter galvanized steel flex sections at pepboys pretty cheap, thats what I used here.

Ok thats an idea. I will see what my installer does with that problem. If Beasst heated his up and did the tightening sequence just right and has been driving for that past couple of months without any problems like cracked welds I would rather stick with what I have, but we'll see. The guy "Nick" who is doing my work is pretty sharp and knows his **** I trust whatever he decides to do with it. Maybe he will chime in here.

Just heard back from the owner of the shop that is doing my install and he has used that location before and here is his words "i have used it before with no problems i think because we use such a large drain size it eliminates back up". Anyway looks like it is staying put where it is, which is fine with me as long as it works and is proven which is what I told him.

They are making them now I out of boxed steel piping I believe.

our setup worked for awhile but started leakking today. We are taking a WG flange and shaving it to use as a spacer to help get everything lined up and seated correctly.

id find a different shop then. hopefully you wont have to keep rebuilding your turbo as oil drains are very important.
i wouldnt call that line big, it looks like 8 or 10an which would be a normal size.

I'd be really really scared to let a shop that employes someone with that theory put a turbo on my car. The pump doesn't pull a vacuum on the oil in the pan, it just sucks it up from the pool of oil sitting in the pan. He is right about the pump pushing oil into the turbo but it's not going to push it back into the pan. It's going to push it past your turbine seal so you smoke like a freight train and past your compressor seal so you fill your intercooler with oil and detonate because of the oil mist on the induction stream.

Technically speaking however, so long as the oil discharge on the bearing housing is above the oil level in the pan, it will drain. The problem is, the oil level in the return line will never be lower than oil level in the pan. So the question is, is there enough of a buffer in the return line so gravity can pull the oil down through the already nearly full drain line faster than the pump is pushing it through the turbo. With the return line above oil level, that is never an issue.
