Default Cavalier Remote Setup

Yeah, I know, it it's wrong wheel drive, it's a V6, it's not an LS1, it wasn't even made in the last 15 years. But I figured this was a decent place to find some information to help me do an Squires-like setup on my 1988 Z24. Car has a stock 2.8L V6 and a 5 speed transmission. Really want to run ~8 psi, 240ish hp if I can. Few questions..

1. Does reading a compressor map differ between conventionally mounted turbos and remote setups?

2. Any advice on the turbo to use? I am looking at a T3/T04b Garrett hybrid with an internal wastegate. If I port the wastegate flapper hole, will the internal actuator be able to hold boost on it's own, or will I need to run an externally wastegated setup and an EBC?

3. Wrapping the exhaust-Is it necessary for my goals?

4. Intercooler-I had an idea of mounting the intercooler (Johnny Racecar 30x8x3" 2.5" in/out) underneath the car, but I figure it will just be easier to cut into the front bumper to get it to fit there.

5. With a rising rate fuel pressure regulator and larger 21# injectors from the Pontiac 3.1L V6 turbo, will I be okay on the stock computer? (This one is probably best for v6z24.com though).

I will keep updated pictures on the progress of the build in this thread. I am also weighing going with a conventional turbo setup, but the RMT seems to be the easier, more cost effective way.

I will give my opinion, as to answer your questions;

1) IDK but go as SMALL as you can, just about any turbo will support 250whp.

2) Internal WG is fine. Again as small as you can get

3) Yes, wrap it up; it makes all the difference in the world.

4) This is not in the form of a question, but I would go front mount, if you put the IC
under the car; remember that lots of crap will hit it and be sure to include a fan to promote air flow.

5) I have no freaking idea, sounds like a plan to me though.

... I think it would be best to swap in an LS1 switch to RWD and call it a day lol.

I agree...Even a NA LS1 would smoke the hell out of whatever turbo you're going to put on there... Plus it would be easier to tune...

Eh, low 11s have been done before on street tires in a V6 cavalier. RWD isn't a viable option, I have a Van with a 440/6 planned for the RWD fun...

With the RRFPR they shouldn't be terrible.. Might try some Ford 30# ones though, would have to re burn the chip. Nope, no mullet, just like to tinker. Already have a nice fast car that is stock, so why not **** with the two that don't get driven a whole lot? If I can get the J body boosted, it will be the DD, and the M3 will sit in the garage more often.

sounds like a cool little sleeper plan, but I have to agree with THE SUPRA and 98turbols1 I would not think it be worth the time and money unless you do it right like the guy did who ran low 11's he prob went through the whole motor and spent some cheese on his set-up

PM me for a website that contains a full cavalier rear mount build. Its got all sorts of *cough* junkyard *cough* turbo stuff at a dot com website. It looked pretty good actually. But like the guys on here have said, if you want decent HP dont bother with these turbo setups. Me and a buddy are working on our ford focus rear mount right now and its making less than 250fwhp and a decent amount of boost. We'll be lucky to make 300. Little disappointing considering I made 315+ with just a lid and a cutout on my LS1 and estimated 400+ on just 5psi. Now...weight and traction are where they begin to differ.
