Default Smoke upon startup

One question has anyone ever had a little smoke upon startup and then it goes away and runs great without any smoke until the next startup? I know my drain is not in the very best location however the shop that did my build/install has used this location before without any issues with the turbo even sitting in a lower position than mine. Could the brand new TC76MPS need to be broken in a little? There must be a little oil getting into the exhaust housing? What could be the cause of this? Will it go away after being broken in? Could the oil feed maybe need a restrictor installed in the line? After startup there is no smoking issues at all and the problem is only upon startup? Any help is appreciated.

any ideas? Do I need a restrictor or check valve in the feed line? Maybe I can get Rob to chime in here he is the one who built the setup.

i would guess your turbo seals or valve steam seals are bad but i'm just merely pulling that out my butt as a guess. could be something very simple.

I've always been told its the valve seals if it only smokes for a few minutes on start up.

How many miles are on the actual engine?
Did this start when you put the turbo on?

If I had to guess, The first thing I would say is valve seals. My justification would be if it was a high mileage engine the valve guides could be worn enough to allow pressure to push carbon and the like into the valve seals and prevent them from properly sealing.

I get a black puff out when I start it, may have been flooding with fuel too because we had to take about 30% out of our tune when we started messing with the car again

engine has zero miles and the heads were completely went through. I just had the motor rebuilt and turbo kit installed. Motor was a H/C motor before the turbo kit was installed and the motor was rebuilt? Rob seems to think the turbo needs to be broken in, but he is not sure. Can it be that the turbo needs to be broken in?

I don't think it is a fueling problem as the car just got off the dyno with a full tune. He started noticing the smoke when he was on the dyno?

I would have to say either a turbo seal or the turbo drain. I'd guess its the drain judging from where yours' is plugged into the oil pan.

28K miles on the heads and cam setup before it was torn up. No it never did smoke upon startup. It did however smoke every once in a while when I was really on it creaping up to redline. If it was a little drain problem could a restrictor into the feed solve the problem bofore moving the drain location?

The heads were fully disasembled sandblasted and a full valve job with new valves and was pressure tested at the time of the superior auto heads and cam was intstalled? Is there a way we can tell whether its the heads or the drain? Were the valve stem seals checked when going over the heads?

Another thought even if it was a drain problem wouldn't the brand new turbo's seals keep the oil out of the exhaust housing? Or can oil go past new seals if there is enough of it? Anyone know this?

Yea it must not be draining well since if it was a seal problem it would be smoking all the time and it would not be going away after start up. We are gonna tap the pan above oil level and that should fix it.
