Default LT1 turbokit reliability test

Being a glutten for punishment, I drove my Turbo prototype car from Tulsa to St Louis (about 400 miles from my house to the hotel). To date the car has over 150 passed, 10000 miles all on a stock LT1. Best horsepower was a STD 484/540 to the wheels with stock injectors. It's ran a best ET of an 11.8 at 126 and a 2.3 60' time on nittos and a best MPH of 11.9 @ 128 with a 2.2 60' time also on nittos. Engine is still internally stock with stock programming but I do have 30lb injectors on it now.

Onward, my wife and I drove the car to her home town of St Louis for the World Ford Challange 6 where a couple of my blue oval friends were racing. Not really intending to take the car to the track, on Saturday, I took my wife to her parents and dropped her off. When I got back, the rest of the group had already went to the track leaving me to drive an artic white and hugger orange z28 through the pits of a ford event large enough to displace a small town! The looks were awesome. Later on in the day, it was discovered that there was a dyno there. HMMMMMM. After some prodding, I decided to take it over and dyno it. Heh, the looks were getting better when people heard the exhaust whistle with the cutout open. parking inline to dyno was the best but most people were cool about it. Some wondered why an out of state fbody was in the pits there which required an explination. I simply explained the above and most were cool and curious. On to the dyno results...

It only put down 470/484 to the tires on which was off from the 484/540 on the aborted at 4700 rpm run (too much boost for stock 24lbsers). However, it was so rich between 3800 and 5500 the sniffer map it. The sniffer stopped at 10:1 and it went well below that. That is where my torque went. A leaking blow off valve limited the boost to 9psi which it's ran it's best times at 12psi. I'm going to rework the exhaust and change blow off valves before I release the kit. I am going to try to put down 525/550 and chase the torque as high as it will go on a stock LT1. When it's done, I'll release the kit. Anyway, more updates to come!

Wow...

I wanna sell or trade my LS1 for an LT1 and cash and then toss on a tubro...dang

Its awesome to see that some forced induction kits are putting down big numbers with minimal mods.

so what kind of octane do you have to run for that 10.5:1 compression?

Billy - Thanks! I've been floating around this board for a long time just never really posted. Pics will go up soon. I've got 3 different kits within weeks of being released and I've been concentrating on getting them beyond prototype phase before taking pics. ETA hopefully is August and pricing TBD. The goal is the best horsepower to dollar ratio available from a forced induction system.

Blackbird - Well these are 30lb SVO injectors on stock computer programming. From what I understand, SVO rates their injectors at less than 43.5psi of fuel pressure. I don't recall the specific numbers but it works out to a little under 32psi on stock fbody fuel pressure. Combine that with a booster fuel pump and a boost referenced fuel pressure regulator and a computer who thinks it has 24lb injectors and it makes for a lot of fuel to be added.

Mightymouse - When I dynoed 484/540 with the 24lb injectors and the above mentioned fuel system, I was on 93/101 mixed. That particular run was aborted because I was still getting used to the boost controller I built and had it set to high. The turbo hit it's sweet spot and jumped to 10psi before I could get out of it at 4700rpm. A/F ratio for that split second was about 15:1. Got lucky that day. I lowered the controller to 7psi and put it down 462/473. Both of these numbers are standard and the conversion factor was 1.03.
On the racetrack, I've been using 101/110 mixed (and what ever 93 is left in the tank). I mix the 101 with 110 because the 101 is unleaded and the 110 is leaded. This gives a better quality gas with reduced risk to the O2 sensors. The most boost I've ever ran on pump gas has been 9psi. This weekend when it put down the 470/484 SAE, I had an 1/8th tank of 91 and a gallon and a half of 114. The only reason I added the 114 was I was going to go up to 12 or 13lbs had my blow off valve cooperated with me.
