My APS TT Install Thread
Looking good. Can you get more pictures of the brakes, I think I'm going to have the same problem your having. The way you routed them by the power rack and up by the K member, **** everything. LOL Thanks.
Gzzz it would be so nice to be that close to being down right now.

You can do lots of subassembling ahead of time. That is what I did with many of the parts. Saves you some time later on. Just make sure to check off the items you complete. Don't want to miss anything and have to go back to get it. Those are time killers!
do you think with the motor and trans out, That i can mount up the turbos and stuff and still have room to put it in. Or Leave them off and put them up after the engine and stuff is in?
Yeah I need to start marking the pages, already started missing stuff.
When I dropped off my stuff at the painters to get done. I forgot to do something to it, so I went there to get it and fix what I needed to do. Well long story short I ended up ****** up my truck at the body shop. I was backing up with a trailer and wasn't paying to attention to the front and hit there gate. $3000 worth of damage and I was going MAYBE 1/2 MPH. Heres pictures.
8 months old.
Doesn't look like much, but needs NEW bumper, Grill, headlight, fender,

Yup, I got it started tonight!
Started the evening with a run to the stores for oil and some vacuum fittings and clamps. Then took some more pictures of the brake line brackets for some of the guys with BMR K-members that were asking how I attached them.
First order of business was connecting the vacuum lines for the BOV's. Rigged up my own adapter as the 99 intake is different from the 00-02 one shown in the APS install manual. I think this will work for me. Needed a bigger connector for the heater attachment as the boot was too big for the APS supplied T-fitting. This was fun as the connection is on the back of the intake..... But I got it on. Woohoo!
I fabbed up an EGR block-off plate to bolt onto the intake and cover the hole that was left when removing the EGR.
Next was routing the breather hoses from the rocker covers to the intake pipes. Pretty straight forward. Then tie strapped the hoses in a few places to keep them put.
Next item was to attach the BOV vacuum lines to another T-fitting from the line coming out of the intake and connecting to each BOV valve on either side. The manual does not really specify where to put this connection. I ran the lines inside of the bumper and it seems to work pretty well.
Coil packs went back on the engine and then connected the new MSD plugwires. I broke 2 of my stock wires when taking them off. Guess they were worn out after 88k on them. Time to upgrade!
I made sure all of the O2 sensors were re-installed and connected to the harnesses. Then topped off the fluids. Added the oil and coolant back into the engine. And then the moment of truth......... IT FIRED UP ON THE SECOND TRY!!!! Sounds cool with the open downpipes. I have video of it Thanks Dave for recording the moment. Just trying to get it uploaded for everyone's viewing pleasure (Any sites take a file over 100MB, that seems to be limiting me here....Was gonna put it on my fquick, but it's too big). I could barely hear the turbo's but they were there and put a smile on my face!!!

After I shut it off I noticed some coolant dripping from the LH turbo. DOH! Looks like the outboard water fitting has a leak. Getting a wrench in there is a pain!! Tried tightening it and will see if it still drips in the morning. Also discovered a drip on the inboard coolant banjo fitting. DOH again! At least I can get a wrench on that one. Tightened it but still seems to drip a little. Maybe they just need to be heat cycled? I hope I can get these drips stopped. If not I may have to drop the k-member again to get to these parts....... Or even worse drop the turbo's out...... That will be a pain..... We'll see what happens in the morning.

Wow glad I am still up to read about the initial fire up. Excellent!! Hopefully the little bugs will get worked out. Did you put the spark plugs in the car before or after you put the turbo manifolds on there?
Well looks like you are the first APS guy to get it running and installed. The EPP car sounds like it might be awhile since the guy is selling it now. Not sure if anyone is out there lurking and has theirs installled.
I am pretty depressed as think have to wait until next spring for my install. I still think want to do new engine and everything all at once not try to put it on current motor and then do it again. But it should run fine on stock motor at the gate pressure.
And still put out decent power.
Anyway will keep following your great install thread.A;so did everything clearance ok once tightened down?

Yeah everything seemed to clearance better once I tightened down the manifolds. I had the clearance concern pics and then the next night retook some of them after I tightened everything down. Still had to bend the RH heat shield for the wategate as it was still contacting. But everything else while tight seems to fit.
Did you do number 8 from top or bottom of car. How was number eight and spark plug access in general?
Good news on the clearances. Seeing you install yours makes me just want to throw it on my near stock motor for a bit.
Is that a stock cam in there.Thought it had some lope? Do you have any engine mods?
So sorry to be annoying but now what is left before you can take it around the block.
Did you already install bigger injectors? If untuned for them would expect it to run terrible as of course it would be super piggy rich.

I did #8 from the top. Was tight but not impossible. I don't think there is room from below anymore....

Bigger injectors are on the workbench. My tuner said it would be OK to drive with the stock injectors for now as long as stay out of boost. He won't tune it until I get the exhaust on which was hopefully gonna be Monday. But not if I can't fix these leaks and get the car aligned first. If I fix these two coolant drips, it will be going around the block. May require another video too.
Hugger Z,
Looking good.
I am slowly accumulating all of my parts for my install. I probably won't start my install for a couple of months. I am about to start gutting my family room, so I need to finish that project before I start tearing into the car.
Lets us know how the clutch works out. I need to replace my clutch as well. I am most likely going with a Cartek clutch, but if the LS7 will work, that is a much cheaper alternative. I will be putting the APS kit on a bone stock motor as well. Originally I was going to do heads/cam as well, but I think I will be pressing my luck with the stock bottom end.

Well reading and reading and reading some more on the instructions.
Wondering on a few things. Wondering if we should be putting thread sealant or teflon tape on some of the coolant fittings into the turbos. I see they are using just copper washers and a couple of silver not sure what they are made of washers. They recommend thread sealant only in a couple of places like where one coolant adapter goes into block. Mostly its just copper washers. And ditto on oil feeds and stuff. Is copper washers sufficient with no thread sealant?
Hugger you said you have leaks in this thread. Do you think you have all the washers right? Do you think its just a matter of tightening things enough? Guess see what luck you have. I did notice first intructions think step 31 was not clear on that silver washer and now in new updated instructions its clear. but thought that silver washer would not work as well as copper so not sure why they used it and again no mention of thread sealant just the silver and copper washers.
I am starting to look at my car and starting to think throw the darn turbos on there now on near stock motor. It don't really look that bad to reinstall the stuff if swap out engine. Most of the turbo install is really just installing the coolant plugs, tapping the oil pan for the returns, assembling the turbo and wastegates, modifying and trimming front end stuff for the front mount intercooler and hooking up all the lines and hoses and intake pipes and stuff. It really don't look too bad after you go over it a few times, or lots of times like I have.
I am still stopped in my tracks right now as have no bmr k member ,they seem to be hard to get right now. It is or was supposedly shipping. Then also still have the fuel system problem of the aps that think am getting is not ready yet don't think either.
I would not want to run the car much on stock fuel pump although buddy is running his sts at 5psi fine right now with stock pump and 42 pound injectors. You can keep the boost down by watching boost gauge of course or swap in some 5psi springs for now.
Still best of course to have fuel system in the car.
Well looks like we shall see you driving your car Hugger in the next week and hopefully getting your tune. Seeing you get yours going is just going to make it harder not to install mine right away. There is still a few months of season left up here. Was not planning on tracking the car just yet maybe next year after get a real rear end in there.Still could have some fun around town with those hairdryers even on my near stock engine.
Well guess have to take my still a bit boring 99 ta ws6 for a boot today and maybe make some turbo noises with my mouth or something and fantasize what the car will be like with the kit on there.
Also hoping to hear some more about the new aps dyno engine results might help me decide which final engine and heads and cam setup to go with.

Well I think I got the drips resolved. Ended up tightening down all of the coolant line fittings. And even one of the allen key plugs on the turbo. It seemed to have a leak as well. And dang those turbo's get hot! Got a nice little burn on a finger when tightening one of these fittings. Let me just say, make sure everything is tight before these go on the car! It is soooo tight and difficult to get to most of these connections once on the car.
After lots of messing with these, started it up and let it run for a bit. Topped off more coolant and let more air burp out of the system. Dang this thing is loud with no exhaust!
Once I was finally satisfied I took care of the drips I continued on with the rest of the installation. First order of business was bolting my tunnel brace back on. Took that off to drop my old exhaust. Next was trimming my front fascia.
That went very well and re-installed it on the car. Discovered the air filter on the RH side was not positioned well enough to clear that. Ended up re-clocking the filter to put it behind the foglight. Tip for Camaros installing this kit: Install air filters to be behind the foglight housing and they will clear the fascia and foglight.
Next were the Fender liners. Those also required some trimming to clear the charge pipes. I actually forgot to snap a picture of those. Sorry. And then on went the plastic underpanels to cover each BOV and ait filter. And last was the airdam. It is looking like a car again!! Woohoo!
By now I was in a zone. So I rechecked everything under the car. Still no drips. Woohoo! Bolted on the stock rear wheels and the new front wheels (need spacers to fit the new rears). And for the first time in almost 3 weeks the car was back on the ground supporting its own weight!!!! These new wheels look sweet on the car! I can't wait to have this done and driving. Bolted the Strut Tower Brace back onto the car and took it for my first drive! Unfortunately no video of that today. It was loud and ran funky. Had to keep it running anytime I came to a stop. Sounds like a freaking race car! And oh my god do those turbo's sound good when you can hear them. I tried to keep the rpm's down to stay out of boost but I still heard them!!!! Yeah baby!!!

Monday I get my alignment and my replacement rear wheel shows up (UPS had the wrong address on Friday so no wheel..... and they are not open on Saturday for me to pick it up....DOH!). Then it's off to PFE to get the exhaust plumbed. After that it gets the tune and I am finally back on the road!!!! I can't wait!
