wont the cat back being larger pipe hurt preformance. I thought I read a few guys going to 2.5 pipe (vrs 3.0 ) and picking up alot of down low power without any loss in upper hp. rear mounts need the smallest space ( the pipe and cat) to fill to spool and work best. my .02

There are 2 main things you need to do to keep your stock motor together:

1) Get a really good tune. Get some kind of scanning tools if possible so you can keep an eye on things.

2) Don't get greedy with the power. I drove my car for over a year at 8 psi (475 rwhp), and the stock motor didn't skip a beat.

I'm only going with the base 5 PSI, and 2000TurboVert is suppossed to be sending me a tuned computer, tuned by PCMforless.com. Will that suffice?

I would recommend opening up your downpipe to 4" right off the outlet and getting something like a 12" bullet (magnaflow or dynomax) and chop off the remainder of the STS exhaust pipe in the kit. Put the bullet in there and weld a tip on the end.

I agree. My computer/scanner lives in the front seat. Wouldn't go anywhere without it, especially Saturday nights.
And I only run 7 pounds of boost, which is fine with me. If I had a forged bottom end, things would be different. Mainly a different rear end after I broke the stock one and a different trans after I broke the stock one.

I will be okay, but not ideal. Especially with a turbo car, since the boost is based on load (not rpm), it's not as accurate to just use a mail order tune. I had a mail order tune when I first started, and the car ran pretty lean. I didn't break anything, but I did end up getting it re-tuned again.

A turbo will never get a perfect mail order tune. I got one to get me in the ballpark, but I have been refining it myself since then. If you don't have the equipment to do it yourself, get a custom tune as suggested above.

I would say that a mail order tune would be great for him to drive to the tuner with.

If he is going to get a dyno tune, don't bother with a mail order tune. As long as you don't change the injectors until you get to the tuner, the car will be driveable. Voice of experience.
Just drive to the tuner, put in the injectors, and get on the dyno.

Thats all pretty good advice... It just depends on whether or not he wants to splurge for the dyno tune!!!!!

by my recommendation, hes going to make an appointment @ vengeance racing in atlanta... THey are THE BEST.. HANDS DOWN... Their customer service is TopNotch and if he does get the tune, they are Hands Down the best tuning place in the south!!

Just drive to the tuner, put in the injectors, and get on the dyno.

myself, i wouldnt drive it at all until it gets tuned. get it towed. anything bad happens while driving to the tuner, and your project just got more expensive. others may have had good luck, but thats my opinion. after all the **** i've been through with this kit, i wouln't take any chances.

As long as you do not go into boost, your engine is the same as it was prior to the install. Think about it a while, and you will understand what I am saying. Hope this helps.

koolaid is right...just don't hit boost. Besides, from my experience, the mail order tune wasn't that much cheaper than a full dyno tune. After spending money on a mail order tune, then a dyno tune, I finally spent the dough on a laptop, wideband, and HP Tuners to do it myself. Everyone is different, but if I had known then...I would have just bought all the equipment to do it myself from the beginning.

i think it's an easy kit to make power with....... 5.5-6 psi with cam and matching fuel + intercooler and made 503/512 with stock clutch and LT and ORY

if you have factory manifolds then you are ahead of me (for the time being..... i have ported and coated sotckers on the way with a coated y pipe) and i have a custom I pipe

you will ove it man, a little laggy, but you'll still stomp some ***

Couldn't you not put in a wastegate spring and make sure that you don't make any boost?
