Its a nice color Mike, I wanted a blue one but there is none to found around here.

Only thing that gets me is I'm reading on the TBSS boards that the transmissions puke on these STOCK pretty often under 15K miles. Dont know if thats just because a lot of the same people keep having problems on the boards, I have great luck with every truck I towed with that had a 4L60 do its hard to believe that one of these stock could tear up the trans that easy, its pretty quick stock but its no monster thats for sure.
So what are the plans for the transmission should it break? High end 4l60e or go 4l80e?(I know you wouldn't put a th400 in that bad boy, maybe with a gearvendors).

Kev, magnacharger makes a kit for those things and they are pretty impressive. The transmission, well, they are just a upgraded 4L60E as you know, can't expect too much from it.

Nice choice on a new vehicle.

I now, but man I've beat on my 5.3 trucks hard for 25-30K towing and never had a bit of problems out of the 4L60s. My old 2K Z28 ran low 11s at full weight for a year on a stock 4L60 with no cooler, my C5 ran low 11s and I started modding the car with 76K on the stock 4L60. Look at the GTOs and vettes, they arent puking that quick, same with the vortec max trucks. So I'm not sure if they are just getting the **** beat out of them or there is just something wrong with the programming or hard parts in these. 11.90s out of 4500lbs doesn't sound too unreasonable but maybe its asking a bit much.

I dont know what I'll do if the trans craps, 4l80 wont be an option since I'm not going to go too far with this, already have one race car I'm sick of working on. Thats why I'll play with it fairly stock for a while and see how things hold up. Its just like the dmax/allison I have, on the boards lot of guys are killing the stock transmissions with a 75hp tune and others get 100K out of them with a 100hp tune so I'll wait and see how the shifts hold up and the fluid looks after 5,000 miles before I start putting some power in it.

Yeah, I had a basically stock 5.3L RCSB 2wd truck in the past that used to eat 4L60Es and the 4L65E in my SS(1200lb heavier AWD) has held up pretty decent with a Magnacharged 6.0L. It's a hit or miss thing it seems with these things.

Talk with the guys over on the truck site about it, I know some of them have already upgraded the trans.

I can do a trans myself and put the good parts in it, kind of defeats the purpose of the whole thing though lol. Maybe I'll just give it to my wife and mod the dmax

Thats true but the pickup already has a turbo, I figured it would cost about a grand in parts for an ally plus a converter. Plus 1000.00 for a lift pump, stock turbo dmaxes can make it into the 12s pretty well. So its a difference between doing a trans AND FI for the TBSS or just doing a trans for the dmax

Maybe I'll just sell em both and buy a new Z06

You said it has a 100K powertrain warranty right? So who cares if the tranny lets go? You'll get a loaner to beat on and they get to replace the transmission for free. I'm not seeing the downside? If you're concerned about adding mods voiding the warranty, doesn't GMPP have a blower kit for the TBSS that maintains the factory warranty?

Yes they do. A friend of mine has this on his. Another friend has an STS kit on his and both of their transmissions are holding up just fine.... so far!

Dealer situation around here isnt good for modded cars, I dont think they will replacing too many transmissions with a blower/turbo on it

If they do sell a GMPP blower it usually has to be installed at a dealer to retain the factory warranty. By the time thats over I can buy another TBSS for a spare for the same money

But the main downside is just having the truck stop moving in the middle of nowhere, since I will still be using it as a family truckster having the trans die in the middle of Georgia on the way to Disneyworld with a turbo or blower on it is probably not a good scenario.

I'm just really surprised with the number of trans failures I'm reading about, once I put some miles on it and feels OK I'm sure I wont be scared anymore. Or just build a nice trans to begin with and get it over with.

Nitrous is pretty tempting, I have an older NX single nozzle kit here and EFIlive V2 so I can tune it. If you dont get greedy the LS2s seem to take a smaller hit pretty well.

But most likely to achieve my goal a converter and headers would be necessary. Looking on the various boards now getting in the 11s with one of these doesnt appear to be as easy as I thought..

Maybe just a CAI, torque converter and a good tune for now

The SRT8s are very cool but this was a hell of a lot cheaper. Plus I have tuning software (well almost, i can read the pcm) and I'm more familiar with the LSx engine/4L60 then the new hemi stuff. There was a very cool copper colored SRT8 I was looking at but just couldnt work the right deal. They are the SUVs to beat right now stock thats for sure
