Default MAF and BOV placement

Was having this discussion the other day with a shop. Does BOV placement matter as far as before or after the MAF? Also, they were mentioning issues during tuning because the BOV was mounted next to the MAF and it caused faulty readings during shifting.

My current order of things is starting from the back and moving toward the TB is MAF, BOV (about 6" away) then meth nozzle. Any issues with that? If I could ever find a steel flange for my tial I would mount it up top near the TB.

edit: thought of another question and didn't want to start a new thread, how well will a standard water hose pressure guage work with meth line for testing pump psi? It was $10 and thought I would just "T" into the line.

this is how mine is setup

even thought the MAF is after the BOV and a bend, it is running pretty good. i would say just dont put them RIGHT next to each other.

edit: fixed sentence

the BOV needs to be before the MAF definately. You only want the MAF measuring air that is going into the engine. So it should be intercooler to BOV then MAF to TB.

thats too bad because my initial plans were to have the BOV sitting up nice and high in the engine bay...

Ill try to space them a little more. thanks for the info.

Now about that water hose guage??

You can do that as long as you recirculate the blown off air back into the system.

No you can't... The MAF needs to see what is entering the intake manifold. If you release air after the MAF has metered it (even if it goes back into the system) your computer will think the metered amount of air is inside the manifold, and it will adjust the fuel to compensate the air it thinks is in there. So if you take air back out after the MAF has measured it, you will be running rich.

Now under WOT, it should not matter, because the BOV will be closed.

Turbo - BOV - MAF - TB

You will have issues if you mount the BOV too close to the MAF.

That was what I had thought as well, but having a kit that puts the BOV AFTER the MAF (PTS/PTK) it happens so fast that it's just not an issue. Seriously. I have run many different types of tunes on my car to test things out and it's just not even a small issue. As said above, just don't get them too close together.
