Default does fuel tank vent get boosted?

theres a fuel line that goes to this solenoid looking thing on the driverside which then goes to the intake manifold.if this wasnt capped off would it boost back to the fuel tank or would the solenoid keep it blocked off?

The solenoid should only open during part throttle/vac conditions, and is used to purge vapours built up in the tank ( often via a charcoal canister to filter )

Boost should never be applied to a fuel tank, for obvious reasons.

so would it affect anything if it was blocked off and didnt go back to the intake?a turbo car can still get into boost under part throttle, unless your saying only when its in vacuum,in which case all stock NA cars are always in vacuum or 0psi so wouldnt it always been open?

blocking it off would cause a rise in in-tank pressure. If you want to block it off at the intake, run the line from the tank to the intake side of your blower/turbo where it only sees vacuum, or just leave it hanging like some do so it vent into atmosphere (not very enviromnmentally friendly, but your car is worst! lol).

It can, but the purge solenoid is controlled electronically. So there are no doubt more variables than simply boost to consider for its operation.

You can just vent the tank to atmos, and forget about this. Not sure what way that will affect your emissions testing though.

But whats wrong with leaving it in place ?

im not saying theres a right and a wrong way, just curious on the topic since i dont recall seeing anyone leaving theres intact and wondered if it was because of a possibility of boost going back

Given the solenoid...I doubt boost could ever make its way back.

But as I say, I dont know all the control conditions for it. Or if these are even accessible via the ecu with software ?

It might be interesting to attach a meter to the wires to the solenoid and go for a drive, and see when it does get power ?
