Very doable. Not like it effects driving the car. David knows o drove mine like that everyday for 9 months straight. David can do it better then i can esp. With swing outs. There are just certain things that need to be done to keep ya safe.

swing outs are a waste. you can hop over them and get your in seat faster than it takes to pull the pin and pull the bar out.

at your et and mph I would feel a lot more comfortable having a 10 pt in whether the track enforces it or not. It'll add weight but it'll stiffen your chassis as well.

The NHRA/IHRA rules are there for a reason and I honestly feel they need to get more strict at some tracks. Its for your safety. Although its not really safe to drive on the street with a full cage, we all make compromises. I drive mine around with a full cage and don't worry about it. If you did ever get in an accident though your head is close to alot of bars.

Obviously this is true....

But arent a lot of the rules, based on very old wobbly chassis design, cars with skinny tyres and crap brakes, and cars that in general, were never designed with going fast in mind, and of course stopping quickly.
Most modern cars are already very strong, they can handle, they have good brakes etc etc.
And of course tyres that are huge wobbly drag slicks, that arent the best in terms of handling.

It isnt to say an incident couldnt happen, but forcing a car to make modifications which can in fact be dangerous under the cars normal use, does seem a bit OTT.
I dread the day I have to fit a cage to my car. It would destroy my cars functionality a a full 4/5 seater road car.

Obviously cars with skinny fronts do pose a huge danger in terms of lack of grip to provide steering control, and braking. Wrinkle wall drag slicks can be in the same category. Massive straight line grip....but thats about it.

Im sure a McClaren F1, or Bugatti Veyron with the correct tyres could easily run 9s passes....and it would be absolutely mental to fit a cage to such a car. It would probably make the car more dangerous !!!

Rules are rules, and no doubt there are reasons behind them. But times change, car design changes, and usually gets much safer.
When were the NHRA rules last updated ?

Default swing outs

I think some one makes legal swing outs that function like a door latch don't they? Don't know how safe they are compared to clevis and pin but they sure would be nice on a street driven car.Anyone know any thing about these or who makes them?

I use a bolt in side bar on my street car, you take it out when your street driving and it snaps in the back seat floor while your driving. When I get to the track I bolt it in to run, at the end of the night I normally leave it in for the drive home because I am lazy!

any swingout bar can be completely removed. this is what i do during the week.

i doubt very many people actually (swing out) a swing out bar.

it is definitely more dangerous road drive a car with a halo then without.

it is more dangerous to race a car without a halo then with one, cuz you have a helmet and you're going faster

i street drive my car way way way more than i race it. not having a halo is a safety compromise i have made for myself and my passengers to be safe on the road.

thanks.

now that i think about it having a heavier bar would have only helped my traction problem, thats probably my ticket to 8s, thanks for the idea!
