In a vette I can see sticking with a 4L60 but if I had an F-body I wouldnt waste one penny on a 4L60 if 800rwhp was my goal and I had to have OD. I would write my first to check to someone selling a 4L80 and be done with it.

Its huge money to do a TH400 or 4L80 conversion in a vette so sometimes its best to work with what you have.

I would price both options before jumping in, but it really depends what your plans are with the car.

Want to break in the 9s every weekend or just do it once and cruise or be at the track every weekend and daily drive it also? Big difference

I would ask MM or cablebandit what they spent to do a 4L80, I know there are some faster cars with 4L60s in them so its up to you.

they will hopefully take a look at this thread soon and chime in with some info, the extra 150lbs is a big factor, and so is the extra 2000 to do it over a 4l60e, ive built several 6 speeds, but ive never been thru an auto, i would be willing to try. once i hit 9s i would want to do it all the time most likely, i would be a big kahuna at my local 1/8 mile track too. i just think it would be cool to drive in and smoke all the big boys and there trailer queen drag cars then drive home. dont mind me im just day dreaming

Not easy doing the regularly raced nine second overdrive thing, especially with a heavy car. Always have to compromise somewhere

So true, unfortunately. I am in the same boat, 60#'s, F1A, and a FLT Level 5 with a billet output shaft. Something is amiss here. I too got a little offtrack somewhere. Smartest thing to do would be back it off run 14lbs or so (D1 or F1A) and shoot for mid to low 10's and call it good. The next level costs a whole bunch more.

9's would be cool, but then other things come into play......certified cage, etc.

10.0-9.90 isnt that bad really and a good 4L60 should hold that for a while unless its a real tank. Problem is most are never satisfied with that for long..

The cage, safety stuff, license etc is a hassle no doubt.

looking at your sig: you only did 683/650 with meth @ 11 psi....

ive hit 739 so far with approx 9-10 psi not sure cuz the belt was slipping and im on a d1. still running the 4.00 pulley. and rick@ synergy says there is room in my tune but why max the tune, when i havent even got close to maxing the blower yet. yeah my numbers are dyno queen as im not putting it down at the strip. but hey, like they said get a good flowing motor and a good tune and you be able to hit it. i dint go with anything halfassed on my build. and ive got alot of fuel with my nasty peformance setup, still running 60's
