Re: 4000# Pig: My Black Gal is PHAT! Let's talk weight reduction
Has anyone pulled the pan-hard bar support bracket? I was just wondering how the car handled after it was off. My exhaust keeps hitting it, so I figured I could pull it if I reinforced the stock mount. Any comments on this?
Also, passenger side airbig? Seeeyaaa! Better wear your seatbelt when you ride with me! I have been in a head on at 75 mph with no airbag in a 76 T/A, so I am a firm believer in the seat belt. Airbags are just another liberal ploy to defeat social darwinism. If you're not smart enough to wear your seatbelt...

I was thinking about installing a cage, but I don't race my car that much, and its an extra 60lbs....I will see how bad the car scares the crap out of me when I get it back....

Well I got mine down to a little over #3600, and that's with a iron block,D1SC tuner kit,6 pt. roll bar,9 inch moser,400 turbo set up, and full exhaust. I removed the spare & jack, rear seats & belts, removed A/C,light weight battery, skinnies, installed k-member and lower a arms, removed front bumper support. Future plans are Home Depot carpet, remove rear bumper support, light weight seats, swap my slp bolt on sub frame conn. for a set of much lighter weld on sub frame conn.,and a set of lighter wheels for the back(now use factory 16 inch wheels & et streets) Hope to have it down somewhere around #3500 or less.

please don't get rid of the bumper supports or door bars. I know some folks are gonna roll their eyes but they maybe saved my life when i hit that wall. yeah I can handle my car like you guys but when clipped by another driver, I had no chance to do ANYTHING. Slow/safe is better than was fast and now dead. Your car is already fast...drop the weight you can that won't affect your safety. People will scream "pu$$y" but I have seen the light now..that was my first crash EVER and I am lucky the bars...seat belt and air bag did their job. Done preaching
So next year one will be going in (that will be when i get the funds)
Not so much for safty on the track, but safty for crazy drivers on the street.

quick question...
you know how the equation goes for every pound off of a wheel/tire is equal to 3 because it's rotating mass...is that equally true for the driveshaft as well? that would make that 7lbs = 21lbs and i think that might be worth something. what are your thoughts? or am i just soundign stupid

Re: 4000# Pig: My Black Gal is PHAT! Let's talk weight reduction
The wheel/tire calculation is an approximation based on the mass distribution along the radius of the rotating object...being the wheel. The further away from the axis the weight reduction, the greater the effect. Since a DS is not very large (radius-wise) the effect will not be as obvious.
Does that make sense? If not I could throw out some equations and what not.
