I want a near instant spool and torque that plants your hiney in the seat. I have even thought about trying out a T74GTS for the type of spooling characteristics I am looking for but thought that it might be a little too small. I guess I will stick with the P76GTS for now

if you're wanting a street car and not wanting to go all out, you'll absolutely love the 76GTS! my problem with it is i've got too many cubes for the 76 to work efficiently. basically the turbo is choking the motor. before the a/w intercooler, my inlet temps would start around 85* before the burnout and end up around 160* by the end of the 1/8th. i can keep the temps down w/ the new intercooler, but it's just a bandaid. i know a T6 would be my best bet, but i just don't have the room and don't really want to redo everything since i'm already building a track only car. just looking for a little more out efficiency out of this setup since the other car won't be finished for a year or two.
now i wish somebody would make plastic mock up turbos to rent out!

I've searched long and hard for a replacement since my 76GTS is pushing 388 cid. Works reasonable well, though, for a best of 146 mph in the quarter at full weight at 17 psi with the 40 mm Tial WG wide open. It'll make 22+ psi on my motor and I have the blown head gaskets to prove it.
My 76GTS is absolutely crammed in there on the turbine side. I do have room for a bigger compressor scroll. The problem is that the 76 is a lot of power in a very small package, so it's hard to improve upon it.
The closest anyone has come is the ST80, which will support about 200 more hp, but I understand it's about the same size as the GT42 and PT88.
I got a little excited when I saw this:
some special gt-45 with a nonsponser link
. . . but then saw where the only downpipe attachment available is 5".

don't get me wrong, i love this turbo, i was just looking for something a little larger to compliment the cubes a little better. i normally run 20-22 #'s on up to 24* of timing, but i have to shift around 5600-5800rpm. don't know if it's the cam or what, but it falls on it's face at 5900. i've seen as high as 30#'s of boost (FAST datalog) when i accidentally hooked the boost controller solonoids up backwards. luckily my tuner is way smarter than i am and had it drop timing and dump fuel. probably saved the motor on a few passes that way. guess maybe i'll just keep this turbo and start trying to find a 91.5 or so for the new car.

never seen a dyno, but our local 1/8th mile is at approx 4500ft. and my best to date was a 6.57 @105 w/ a 1.43 60'. car weighed 3703# w/ me in it before i switched to an A/W intercooler, so i figure around 3750# or a little more on that pass. this was also on 20psi and 23* of timing, launching on 17psi.

Don't get shadow boost confused with real boost. We typically see crazy boost numbers like this sometimes from smaller turbos. What is happening is backpressure it often HUGE and the incoming boost and exiting air collide inside the motor. What happens is boost climbs very high. You don't seen any gain in power though and actually slow the car down in the process. 9 times out of 10 what it does is lift the heads off the block or blow a head gasket.

My boost was 19psi and a max timing of 18 degrees. I use to shift the car at 6100 but since swapping to the .96 a/r housing have been able to up that to 6700 on 15psi but haven't tried 20psi yet (power was still climbing on 15psi).

I think if you look real hard and test some pressures, you'll find a bottleneck in your combo.

I think there's more in it. I've pulled 115 in the 1/8 at full stock weight+ on the 76GTS on a 388 LTx at 17 psi. I was even launching on the foot brake and no boost.
