Default Main girdle

how many of you run these? just wondering at what horsepower you guys think that a girdle will actually help? im doing a 408 with a thumper series. just wondering if this may be helpful in my build.

On my camaro stroker motor build from EXOTI PERFORMANCE PLUS.com I had them install one and can make over 700RWHP.I would not feel good about this unless I had one.It is cheap insurance.

We've been 7.8's WITHOUT one.

The lower block tie-in design on the LSx really doesn't warrant one IMO. If you're worried about it, get and iron block a be done with it.

Please note the LS base stuff is not like the ford 302 blocks. I have yet to see anyone split a block. Now if your running 1500-2000rwhp then yes but 700rwhp is a walk in the park for the LS based stuff.

umm, see a few posts up. That's 7.8's in the 1/4, not the 1/8th

Mike or Steve, girdles on those ERL blocks? Or just pinned caps like the normal poeple?

no, never intended to make over 1500 with that motor so i didn't bother. What turbo did you end up replacing the 4788 with?

The Casper engine had a girdle and showed bearing life that was incredible, but it did not run much. 6.86 @205 with about 1900hp

Mike Brown used a LS1 block without girdle and showed reasonable bearing life for his estimated 1400 flywheel hp, but the caps did move a bit.

Steve Turley used a LS2 block with a girdle, all his bearings showed good except the rear of the thrust. He was a touch higher power than Mike, probably 1500-1600 based on his 9XX to the tire and 7.79 in Memphis.

After this coming summer you should start to see a pattern of what level the main bearings start to show problems. Can't wait to take apart some new stuff to see how its holding up to the incredible power produced.

if they had actually put some boost to it on the dyno it would have pegged it like paul did. Steve was running in the mid 180's at 3400, it's probably a little higher than 1600.

I'm betting his thrust bearing is more a result of the forced staging habits we have for turbo cars. I'd be curious to see what Tom's looks like after the burndown.

It had the same tune in it when it went 189mph. If he would have pulled it past 7000 it would of shown some power. He was suposed to be the last car on the dyno and just wanted to put down enough to get the win. But an LSX block guy asked if he could sneak in. Hmmmm

With the amount of passes on the Camaro at that power level. We couldn't be happier with the way the bearings looked. It does run pinned caps with a girdle.
I've never ran a girdle on my motors and think we have gotten really good data. I think were all in agreement that pinning the caps is a good idea.

I have always liked to build for the boost. Some may think we are over engineering, but I say if you have the cash, better safe than sorry.
