Stock LS1....how much boost?
Hey guys, just a quick question, how much can a stock LS1 motor handle? Isin't the compression 10:1? I was thinking around 5 or 6 psi with a good tune and 93 octane. It will be intercooled so that makes me think I can go slightly higher on the boost. I really don't want to go with anything too crazy, it's just a mild street 69 Camaro LS1 conversion.
Only mods are........
~Comp Cams 224/224 112 lsa (I know not the best SC cam)
~Pacesetter long tubes.
~Thats it, stock everything else.
Any input?
Thanks for your time,
Joe

I have been running 10lbs on my C5 LS1 with a cam/ls1 heads for over 2 yrs now (1yr TTI and 1yr APS). I have a friend that has 2 C5's both twin turbo'd (1 STS and 1 APS) both ls1 heads and stock cams running 10lbs. APS for 1yr and STS for about 2yrs.
I wouldn't push it much futher than that though unless you add some meth. Its mostly in the tune as were running 2bar custom OS from EFILive.
STS 500 RWHP and both APS cars approx 580 rwhp as these 2 have cams (turbo cam and 01 Z06 Cam)

I knew I'd get a "try a search" comment, just like in about every question I see here.
Otherwize, thanks for the replies guys, I think I will stick to around about 5 to 8 psi until I can go with better pistons and compression ratios.
My thoughts exactly. I was just double checking. Thank you for your reply.
Nice!

Yeah, we REALLY need to get a sticky at the top of this forum for just this question! It is probably the most commonly asked question I think we all see in here. I can see how if you did a search you'd come up with 90% of the threads telling people to do a search

Only problem I see, is that if we put a sticky up there, then it gives the appearance that the membership as a whole supports the numbers listed by each car, and that could cause trouble.
So, if car a's motor, who on a ragged-edge tune, has made 600+ on pump gas, and car b's #7 ringland goes on vacation in the combustion chamber after 6psi and 450rwhp...he gets bent and goes crying to PSJ, Troy, and Walt Disney that the FI section is responsible for his engine failure because "we" said "his" motor could take it.
I know it's extreme, and really wouldn't happen, but it might be why there are plenty of other stickies warning about the cost of FI vs how much boost can I get away with before it costs me a new motor. Just too many variables, and too much that can go wrong even under ideal conditions.
Believe me, I was there...got the video.
