FYI, presto, 50% methanol in water is still flammable. Mix some up and put it in a small bowl outdoors... secure the dog. Drop a match in the bowl and it will fizzle out... but wave your hand over the bowl and you'll feel the heat from the invisible flames. Extinguish by covering with a pot or something else non-flammable. Be careful, please, if you actually test this...

Given the fact that I'm already plumbing a bunch of fuel at pressure under my hood, I'm not too worried about using 100% methanol in my alcohol tank.

this a direct quote written on my snow performance methanol pump

from my understanding a 50/50 mix is a combustible not a flammable, any thing over 50% is a flammable.. there is a difference between the two

just because something will burn doesn't mean its flammable..

ALL FLAMMABLES ARE COMBUSTIBLES BUT NOT ALL COMBUSTIBLES ARE FLAMMABLE

im not trying to argue that a 50/50 mix is better then a 100% mix, im just letting people know what snow performance recommends

Likely, because the seals are not compatible...

Thanks for shouting, we all appreciate that.

So, with the Snow kits, the question is moot.

Another reason to use Alkycontrol instead, in my book.

My Snow Performance pump says no such thing on it...the instructions mention you can run 100% alcohol if desired. Maybe you got an older pump?
They use a Shurflo now which seems to be the same as most kits.

I installed my alky kit this weekend, filled it with water only for the intial test. Still had some detonation and it felt slower too.

Today I switched to 70% denatured alcohol / 30% water. Detonation is completely gone. Advanced the timing 5 degrees, still no detonation! It hauls ***** now!

Just ran out to the garage and looked at mine it doesn't have that label on it either. Basically has snow performance and water/methol injection is it. Either way doesn't really matter to me I think I am going to run 50/50 but won't be spraying much in my setup anyways.

FYI--I see a lot of mention of "shurflo" pumps, as if they are all the same. Shurflo makes 100's of different pumps that all look very similar. They are one of the largest pump manufactures for farm equipment.

Your right. Shurflo does make numerous pumps which all look the same. Most of the water methanol companies are now using the same pump which comes upgraded with all EPDM seals and valves. However, some are still using the Viton seals, which are not compatible for use with 100% methanol.

You'll also notice many of the other companies pumps are left unpainted. Our pumps are actually painted black which is extra. While this is really only a minor detail. This does provide some added protection to the outside of the pump. When exposed to the outdoor elements the body will rust. Additionally, it looks much nicer then a unpainted pump.

Check with this manufacture as their older pumps came with Viton seals which can only handle 50/50 mix. You may have an older pump. If so do not run a mixture over 50/50 water methanol. If you stay with a 50/50 mix you will be just fine.

Actually, -20 below zero washer fluids are only 30% methanol. We researched over 15 different brands and they wer all with in 2% of each other. In order to achieve that temperature rating they add approx. 30% methanol with 1-2% ethylene glycol with some brands.
