I can get a 6.0L for about $800 bucks... but I can get a 5.3L for a measly $400...

I'll prolly go with the same cam set-up, but I'm going to use 60lb injectors. Their 50pounders with at like 95% cycle duty!

so, here's the set-up so far: 6.0L with 60lb injectors, Z06 cam/springs, T70 turbo, 10.5lbs of boost, 93 octane.

should I go with a different set of rods? or will they be alright?
10.5psi might be pushing it. i would keep it under 9psi.

a 6.0 with cam at 9psi will make good power. on our 5.3 fairmont we ran a best of 10.4 on pump gas at less than 8psi.

6.0 iron block FTW!

Stock crank, forged rods, and pistons and you have a solid motor.

Is it possible to bore the 5.3 to 6.0, or does the 5.3 have smaller outside bore diameter? Any other differencies? I can't get over that idea that I could have very cheap and easy 550 hp turboengine from the 5.3 at first and afterwards (or after piston damage) just bore it out and change pistons and rods and turn the boost up. You can't bore it out to 6L, but you can punch it to a 5.7. Doing that will give plenty of options with off the self forged pistons . You would basically have an iron block LS1

Yep, that iron 5.7L would be good compromise between costs and power. I've been watching off the shelf Mahle-pistons, I like their design and pricing. Does anybody have any negative about them?

I believe that Mahle was quoted as saying that their pistons were good for up to 800hp...this was when cablebandit had one break a ringland...
