Question Rear-Mount Setup Questions

Alright, I'm seriously thinking about fabbing up a turbo setup for my new T/A. I'd be happy with 450-500rwhp. I was thinking of running a rear-mount setup with a Holset HX55, problem is I can't find anybody who has actually ran one on a LS1 car. From the info I've found they have 70-72mm compressor inducers. Also, before someone says it, I can't afford a Precision or Turbonetics turbo, I have to work on a tight budget here(college is rough). I'd like to get some opinions. Should I just go for it and try it out? What do you guys think?

Yea if you are really looking for just those numbers.. go with an STS... for the $ and for your goals.... you will be just fine.

Master Power t-70 was about $600 I've had no problems in 3 years, but others have had some difficulties. The range for rear mount seems to be the 60-1 (base STS kit) up to the 76, and I know a few that have gone larger. On the turbine side I think most are running a P-trim with an A/R from .68 up to .96.

That's what I've been reading. I think I'm going to go front-mount now because the fab work will be about the same difficulty, but less in materials. I'm thinking I'll move the alternator up top, run a '02 pass. manifold on the pass. side with a '98 pass. manifold flipped on the driver side. I WILL keep my A/C. I believe Riceetr built his 1st setup like this. I just gotta figure out which turbo I want. I have a Schwitzer that I bought for my LT1 S10; I'll take some inducer/exducer measurements this week and see what I have to work with. BTW, 2002ws-6, your setup in your sig sounds nice!

Skills aren't a problem, I've been a welder by trade for a while now, and if there's something I can't do, my father-in-law has a machine shop and can help out. I wish I could afford a new STS kit, but I believe I can do it myself for roughly $2,000 with some used parts (I've already made a price list). I know that sounds optimistic, but I almost positive I got everything on there. And yes, I like having things done with a quickness, but for something like this, it can take a bit. That's why I gotta jump on my BMW and get it running, so I don't have to drive the T/A

2k is a realistic number. youll be ok . alot of dudes think they can go turbo for 500 bucks. 2k is what youll problly spend to fab a good system, new turbo, wastegate, pipeing (hot and cold), oil lines, couplers, and the 35 other things you never think about. BUT to make reliable HP you need to spend aliitle more around 5 to 6 hundred on getting some more fuel to it.
