Default need retuned for race gas?

not to sure if I should post here or in the pcm area. if the wrong spot I guess move it.

anyways I bought a sts ws6 about a month ago. turbo was said to be smoked, blowing oil in the charge pipes. long story short turns out the dude just needed to change the air filter. I put a new one on cause the old one was done right nasty. BAM!! the car is making boost again.

the car is fully tuned by nic d, it was tuned for 5psi and 10.5 with the meth. right now it's only running 8 psi cause of a problem I'm having with the e-boost 2 controller.

anyways now that I have it running again, and hoping to fix the boost controller soon. I want to tack it to the track and see what it will do. I want to run some race gas (they sell some 101 or 105 octane at a gas station near by) if I run that will that affect my tune?

right now only making 8 psi I keep the meth on all the time(starts spraying at 2psi) I try to stay out of boost but sometimes it's hard.

I just thought that if I'm running it alittle harder at the track I would use some higher octane gas.

the car does also have a fmic, runs 10.5:1 a/f with 8 psi and the meth on.

thanks

Its generally a good idea to throw in some better fuel when you know it will see a consistant beating (ie racetrack), a few bucks a gallon is much cheaper then a set of new slugs.

You could get re-tuned for race fuel for more boost, how much? It depends what the motor likes and how much timing the tuner wants to push.

If you wanted to turn up the boost, and get a tune done for race fuel go for it. But you dont need to be retuned. Running race fuel on your current tune is going to stop you from a possible detonation.

You dont need to retune for the race fuel, but if you did you could add more boost safely.

if I do it I would be running the 10 psi that it was tuned for. I was just wanting some extra insurance since I would be really on the gas alot. the gas we have here is unleaded, I just didn't want to put it in if it would harm the engine. I mean I know stuffing 10 psi in there isn't prolonging the engine's life, but I really want to see what it will do. as far as I know it has never been to the track. the guy I got it from said he was there once but had no slip, so....being that the car quit making boost because he didn;t change the air filter I don;t really belive that it ran a 10.9.

like I said the a/f is steady at 10.5 part throttle/full throttle soon as I hit like 2" of vaccum/go more then 25% throttle.

since I moved the fmic off the rad. and put the 24x12x4 on I'm seeing 10-15* hotter iats while crusing. (hotter then the outside temp) and about 20* after a hard pull.

the sensor is before the meth injector so I don;t know what it's at once it starts to spray.

What do you have on pump there.....93octane? I'd run a 50/50 93/104 mix on race day.

we have 91 only

50/50 mix? I'm pretty sure the stuff that is unleaded is like 105. I know that on fri./sat. the ricers are all over that place.

Same here

104.....105, just different companys. The sunoco thats always on the shelf out here is 104 unleaded.

But you get what I'm sayin' right? Mix a 1:1 ratio of pump 91, and 104 race gas (or 105).

hey man,

there is a 76 station on speedway its a couple lights west of campell that sells 100 unleaded for $ 6.00 a gal. it right off the pump. I usally try to plan on haveing around a 1/4 tank of 91 left on fri and add around 7 gallons of 100. buy the time I get to SIR the fuel is good and mixed. the guy selling at the track wants over $ 7.00 a gal.

that is only 100 octane? damn, I thought it was more. well 100 is better then 91.

I figured out what was wrong and got the car only making 5 psi in low setting now. much easier to keep the tires from smoking once boost hits.

dons hot rod shop has 110 unleaded, I think its like 8.00 a gal.
bring your own gas can though. thats why I like the 76 station. I can pull up swipe the card and start pumping, kinda a PITA to have to fill a 5 gal jug then go to the car with a buddy holding the funnel.....back to the shop for another 5 gallons....blah.

yeah I hear that. I should be ok with 100 octane/meth. I have new plugs in there, and my a/f is dead on 10.5:1. really I'm more worried about the stock rearend then anything.

**** it, if I break it I will be buying a 9" sooner then I thought.
