Default fi engine oil

which oil do most of you FI guy's use. i am stuck between rp xrp and mobile both 5w-30. tks

does anyone use a different oil for their FI application or does FI require a different oil ?

nope.. just go with what the engine was designed for...

the only time you MAY consider looking into oil specifics is when your running a turbo and try to find out the best oil for that turbo.. but supercharged.. no issues.

I think I used 15w-50 for mine but it was cause the motor was built very loose...

I'm still on the stock internals and use Pensoil 10w-30. My UOA's with 5W-30 showed it sheared quite a bit. A couple of people said they had lese shear with 10-30.

If you change your oil frequently, +1 for Rotella non-synthetic. The 5-gallon pail at Walmart is like $33 last time I checked, although it's probably $50 now
If you like to go 7500+ miles between changes, then the Rotella T synthetic.

Holy rotella, I've heard the non synthetic reccommended several times for break in but haven't really heard anything for continuous use. This thread sounds promising, but I think I'd run the synthetic once its broken in. Easy to get and cheap. Hmmmm decisions, LOL

i run the synthetic and like it during most of the year.i may switch to non synthetic for the really hot summer months then switch back

Castrol 5/50 synthetic has been very kind to my boosted work truck for 266K miles so far, so I also use it in the turboed GTO. I doubt that the results would have been much different with most other brand-name oils. However, some aftermarket builds have different bearing clearances, so I would leave the choice of oil weight to the engine builder.

ive heard about using diesel motor oil on turbo cars also.


i tried some cheveron delo400 in my 1995 single turbo supra and i notice the car spools a bit better and overall i think drives smoother.

Penzoil plat 5w30.... Never heard about shearing issues. I may got to 10w30.
