Default all the th400 guys come in!!!

ok, i put this in fi cause i was told converters act diff in fi cars than in na cars. my car is a m6 and im wanting to go th400. ok i have a 385 lt1 big cam and 76 mm. i have 3.50 in the rear and will run a 28" tire. what is the best way to determine what stall speed i need? it will have a brake and will be street driven. so would a hughs 3500 be to high?

Call the converter company and they will build you one for exactly what you need. My stall is def higher than that but I am trying to spool up an 88.

Nothing will make your TH400 experience shittier than putting the wrong converter in, especially on a turbo car. Call a good converter company, they will ask you cam, stroke, weight, gear, tire size, estimate HP etc and build you a converter.

ive always had bad luch with th400's , probably just me! so now ive been running neal racing pro-series glides! Great company burnt up a band in one after a few months...damn turbo cars...pretty tough on these transmissions as far as fluid temps! but they took care of it no problem they have a 1yr warranty

Yea, you shouldn't have a problem with overheating on the street. Keep an eye on the trans temp, and if it goes higher than you like, get a trans cooler with a fan on it.
As far as which converter, call a few reputable companys, and go from there..PTC, Neal Chance, ATI, etc.

the problem with the heat im talking about is when your bring the vehicle up on boost and on the trans brake, heat build really fast when your sitting on the converter! On the the mustang coupe i have a trans cooler that is in aluminum case that i run ice water through from the intercooler. and i have another in line log style cooler mounted on frame rail under the car. But for street use you should be alright ...as long as your not sitting on the trans brake at the stop light too much....haha

Dyno the motor and see where is makes power at, then contact the converter place and tell them what it dynoed. They'll ask for the weight, cam, and all the other specs. With a th400 and turbo you'll probably run a low rpm stall, something in the 3,500-4k range I would guess.

Call Hughs and see. Like has been stated the right TC for you depends on all the variables already listed, you might get lucky and the Hughs will work out. Mine spec'd out by NC has a really low stall, probably 2200-2400 off the foot brake and 3400 on the T-brake, but thats for my setup.

Precision Industries. Don't get me wrong, though, at 4500 rpm flash it works quite well.

I went M6 to TH400...now I am 4L80e....either way i'll never go back to a manual turbo set-up...the auto is better all of the way around.
I also couldn't agree with KP more...I bought a cheap converter (9.5") stalled for 3300....well it would flash to 5500, between shifts it may drop 50-100 rpms and my 60's were horrible..mostly 1.78's off the t-brake on et streets! The car sounded like a M6 with a slipping clutch.
I would just do what most are saying here, call the conv company and tell them everything, they will get you straight. I learned my lesson, don't skimp on the converter, I'm going Yank this time around.
