Default Hughes flexplate for the users searching

Here are my results with about 300 miles, including 3 track passes (low 10's) and about 10 pulls on the street spinning completely through first (pg trans). Stock ls1 vs Huges.

This happened on the street with the slicks spinning completely through first. some scratches on the pan/rear cover but pretty much only damage is the flexplate.

TCI here I come.

Damn, thats crazy. Never had a problem with either the stock or tci flexplate. The tci is a nice plate for sure. How much does that hughes go for?

It was 160 ish if i remember correctly. I am wondering if the stock crank bolts backed off to cause this but they are all still about the same level in the crank, none look like have backed off even after the flexplate went. It felt like i missed a gear and hit neutral but hard to do with a cheetah and a pg lol.

Was the Hughes an SFI-Certified piece? Hughes quality has always been good for me.

Now that is scary. You're very lucky if the flexplate is all that went.

Bet the bolts backed out buddy. I went with the TCI in my TH400 swap because of all the good reviews on it....couldn't really find any on the hughes.

Intresting. I've had a Hughes flexplate bewteen my 402 and Th400 for goign on 3 season's now, and not a single problem. Car's made probably 50+ passes in the 10's, 4 solid 9 second passes (can be seen in the video in my sig) and probably 1000 street miles, and not a single issue. I launch off the transbrake at 5000 rpm, and it's fine.

Either somethng was defective with that plate, or your bolts loosened up. I'd send that back to Hughes and have them take a look at it, ya might get a new one in the mail.

I don't know what exactly caused it. The crank bolts were new ones with the factory loctite and were for sure tight upon install. Could be converter, loose bolts, defective, etc...... I do know it broke and a TCI one is going in with ARP bolts, going to be double checking alignment on everything. A $300 repair is gods gift to race cars lol.

Were the crank bolts still tight when you tore it apart? If they didn't back out I'd think they should still be torqued down.

lol.

Yes the bolts were still pretty tight. They could not be taken out by hand, but I am sure it doesn't take much loosening to wallow out a flexplate. The threads look fine still so I am thinking it was not the bolts but I will never know for sure.

Seriously, I'd send that to Hughes, so that way they can take a look at it, I'd bet that you'll rpobably get a new one out of it, and if not, maybe they'll look at theid design and look into beefing it up some.

I don't know what brand of converter you have, but I recently changed from a TCI to a PI. I have a TCI flexplate on my 4L60, and the bolts aren't long enough to go through it and thread into the converter due to the TCI being quite a bit thicker. Just FYI you may need longer bolts with the TCI plate.

If you still have a picture of that plate, could you take a pic of the SFI tag? I wanna see if that's the same one that I have, for some reason the one I have is a different color, I'm wondering if there's 2 different ones
