Default Meth

Just wondering how much meth helped out you procharged guys. I have a 408 with fmic D1sc with 14lbs just wondering how much it helped out and was there any power difference or et gain.

We picked up 35 to 40 rwhp on this Corvette with straight methanol. Inlet air temps drop 35 degrees when the methanol starts flowing. Bob

I saw an increase of 30 rwhp last year from adding timing.

Default Related problem

I have a small setup 9:1 short duration cammed LT1 and to make a long story short

I changed plugs, wires, coils (Delteq), ignition module and have same problem car breaks up when it hits ~8 psi. The car ran fine a couple months ago with 6 psi don't have that wastegate anymore (changed to 8.7) and wondered will Methanol/water injection cure my problem?

I have an intercooler etc and it seems all is well with intake air temp. My solutions seem to be, change to larger cam or drop CR (Heavy car so don't like either) lower boost, or possibly injection system.

The cost is reasonable considering the cost/time to make the other changes.

Thanks for any help or opinions
Jack

Do you have the 3.5" or 4.5" twin intercoolers? With an effective air-to-air intercooler and methanol injection we have been able to lower peak air temperatures with 12-14 psi applications within 5-20 of ambient at peak boost.

Depending on how effective the intercooler is, on intercooled applications we will typically see horsepower gains between 7-10% when tuned properly.

Let us know if you have any other questions or how we can help.

In your opinion, would I need to run meth on a 408 w/ T76 running about 15psi using 93 octane? It would probably be the safe thing to do, but with that motor and low compression, could I achieve that goal with out meth? Thanks.

Certainly. However, you could reduce your peak air charge temperatures down to within 10-20 degree's above ambient be using a water methanol injection system. There's a whole host of reasons why to do this and how it would be better for the engine.

For example, if your running 15 psi with an air-to-air intercooler, on a 80 degree day your air charge temps are going to peak between 150-170 degree's without water methanol injection.

Do you know what your air temps are peaking at during a run?

I wish I did...the car is not up and running now. Before the transmission tear down, it was only running 4psi on a very conservative tune. My goals for the car are 750 HP @ 15psi. I figured running a meth injection system would be in the best interest since I do live in Texas. I'll definitely be putting a meth kit in the plans when I get to that point.
