wow, i was browsing through and i saw this.... i completely forgot about this thread ....

i actually had a little mishap... one day in july i was going to get a haircut, and instead 3 firetrucks had a extinguish my car... eeesh. definitely needs some work... but nothing REAL major. it just took some time to figure out what i wanted to do. i made out well with the insurance company, and the title is still clean. i figure i want to pocket as much money as possible to start saving for bigger and better things in life, but will rebuild the car...

the fire was in the gas tank area, and although it took 30minutes to put out (they forgot they had foam, ugh), luckily the expensive area of the car was unharmed. so basically i just need to clean up the crap in the rear of the car. ALL the interior is already stripped out and the stink is already gone. i also bought a wolfe 6pt weld in, minitubs and springs. other than that, just putting it back together. (after cleaning of course, i want the car in like new condition, and have all winter up here in buffalo). just needs new carpet, headliner, some plastics, and im also buying corbeaus for it.

luckily my family owns a facility with a paint booth, and our PPG supplier is a cool guy and is already hooking me up with the paint....again.. lol (i've completely repainted this car 2 times already)..... luckily i wont have as much work this time... rear bumper, hatch, roof, driver rear quarter, and driver door.

at first glance the car looked real bad, but once i ripped all the bad **** out and washed it, it's really not that bad. too be honest, i haven't really missed it AT ALL, and just recently started working on it for something to do.

the car is actually rather clean on the inside now.... its not done, but i have 99% of all the mildew/mold out... there is no stink... the metal pans are all clean, strong, rust free and primed.

as far as the setup goes... phenomenal..... i did not have to open my hood ONCE this summer other than to change my oil... first setup in years i've had that i didnt have to fiddle around with it. the only thing i had to do was fix my rear end this summer.... and decided i didn't feel like driving it anymore, so i set it on fire :ugh:

Damn! So what ended up causing the fire? Short in the fuel pump?

Wow man, glad to hear the cars going to live again and you're doing alright.

So what was the cause of the fire? Short in the tank with the pump wiring?

im assuming short in the fuel pump wiring, failure of the pump, something along those lines.... to be honest, it was too much of a mess... i just ripped it all out, tossed it, and i'm starting over again. i couldn't tell exactly what it was.

definitely taking more precautions this time around. master battery cut-off, maybe foam system... and instead of dual intank, im sumping a 98 tank and running a magnafuel inline pump.

Did you have an extinguisher in the car

Glad that is all that happened because you have one of the nicest set ups here on tech IMHO.

i kept tell myself to put a fire extinguisher in the car (we have a ton of them at work, but it kept going over my head when i was there.... every single day.. lol). it wouldnt have mattered though. the first responder hit it with his extinguisher before there were even flames, and that's what actually prompted the flames. it really needs a foam system.

thanks

stock engine it made 508, but it sucked. it wasn't tuned right, and that 500 was not reflective of it's output. then i built the 347 (nothing special), and took it to cartek for the tune. they are top-notch. it only made 440rw, but was much better than the previous 500. a couple months later i sold it all because the STS was way too much of a headache to me
