When i get my valve springs done, i may pull the filter off, and see if the power goes up. For the street i will keep the filter on, just as a saftey measure. This is what i run, it was the biggest i could fit.
Part Number: KNN-RU-2800
Air Filter Style: Conical
Length (in): 7.000 in.
Inlet Flange Inside Diameter (in): 5.000 in.
Air Filter Top Measurement: 4.375 in. diameter
Air Filter Bottom Measurement: 6.500 in. diameter

Think its big enough?

i have 2 pieces of screen from home depot, doubled it and my turbo STILL sees some restriction from it, so much in fact it literally sucked in the screen on the dyno and wore a hole thru the middle of the screen right where the shaft is on the turbo.

you would think screen would not be restrictive but it is, that said any type of regular filter will probably suck bad

I had a friend tig weld the v bands on. The process took about 5 hours total welded inside and out. Zero warpage. Proper rod, pre heat, maintain heat, post heat. All done with an oven for 100% even heat dispersion.

Thanks for the comments. It was fun and very interesting. Was my first turbo system that I fab'd and welded myself.

Good thing it was a friend, a shop would charge a fortune to do that!
Sweet idea, it sure cleans up the first bend!
My current build up is my first turbo DIY build as well!
It is not something that too many people will consider doing!
Kudos to you!

It sure does clean up the first bend!! I've posted in your threads. Really love the simplicity of it. I KNOW it will work!

I'm glad this thread came up. I just bought a 6"x 10" round k&n for my car. Going to tuck it behind the bumper. I was wondering if it would restrict me or not. Looks like I need a min. of 128" of filter and I'll have 187 or so.

How bad do you think putting a 4 inch to 3inch reducer with a 3inch k&n would have? I have a 90 bend that reduces then the filter.

Would intake air filter restriction give you the same sort of symptoms that maxing out a turbo would? I have a T67 front mount on a 346 that doesn't like anything above 11 psi or so (0.96 exhaust A/R), and I've just assumed that this limitation was due to the turbo itself.

Got an update for you guys. I bought just a standard 4" 90 silicone bend, 4 ply and a rubber 4" 90 aswell. Both fit, but I like the silicone better due to it matches all of my other couplers and I was able to trim it down some and get more clearance. I'm pretty sure no one will have issues fitting this piece, I wasn't even thinking about it when I designed the kit lol. Oh ya, ignore the filter.
