Default Another one bites the dust!!

Well today I pulled the turbo off the car! felt the shaft in it yesterday while i was washing the car and it was pretty sloppy. After getting it off and inspected i see where it has rubbed the walls a little bit. This turbo is not even a year old...........actually I think it was september 2006 when i bought the turbo....that equals out to just a little over 600 miles!

I guess the reason I posted this is to get some kind of idea of what may have caused this so i can try and prevent it the next time.

well i took the turbo to get rebuilt and got some very bad news from them. They needed to get the parts from turbonetics to do the rebuild so they gave them a call to place the order but turbonetics told them that they no longer have parts for all of their turbos after a certian date. I guess they did some changes on their new things and didnt even bother to keep producing the parts to repair their previous models. ( which mine was bought in sept. 2007 so thats complete bullshit!!!) I called jose at forced inductions where i bought mine from and he confirmed that they had changed their turbos and that they were not looking out for their previous customers while doing it. Jose has been very nice to me about this whole situation considering it has nothing to do with him. He said he would help me out with giving me his cost on a new turbonetics turbo. Just trying to decide if i want to go back to turbonetics or stay clear!

Exactly!

If they no longer have the capacity to repair the product you bought with a warranty, then shouldn't they offer you another turbo and give you a credit for yours? Or at least give you back what you paid?

Is it a year old or not?

Not only that, but i am sure forcedinductions.com selling point to customers was the no questions asked 1 year warrenty.

I would contact a lawyer, because either the company who makes it or the company you bought it from owes you a new turbo.

before you do anything i would take a look at Turbonetics warranty,i'm not sure what they cover but more than likely it just covers workmanship and material defects.I've seen alot of turbos fail over the years-very,very,very few were the turbo's fault.2 things usually kill turbos-dirt,weather ingested into the compressor or through the oil,and oil starvation.

well that sucks especially with the amount of TC-series turbo that FI.com sold here in the past year....now we have no way of getting them repaired if they **** the bed...warranty or not?

I thought FI.com could repair all turbo's in house? What internal parts are unavailable?

If the turbo is less then a year old it can be warrantied. If not it has to be taken apart and parts replaced in them just like any other turbo. The problem is Tnetics changed turbine wheels and went to something totally different.

Depending on the company's ethic (I've never called Turbonetics), they can practically say that about any defective turbo, i.e. a seal that was defective could fall apart despite proper oiling, yet someone could allege that not enough oiling destroyed the seal... It's tough to decide what happened as a customer and easy to blame the customer as a turbo manufacturer.

I also have a Turbonetics turbo, an old 76 GTQ... Thank God it has never given me a problem... I have put too much oil in it, too little oil in it, had a broken BOV for a while, etc... I've treated this turbo like **** unintentionally...

It's not that easy to destroy a turbo unless you really make a huge error IMO. They're not antique crystal. They're made to run as long as they're getting the right amount of oil and clean air free of debris... If the customer has ensured those conditions were met, then the manufacturer has to cover it and be truthful when they inspect the turbo... Ideally...

We can rebuild pretty much anything, but if the turbine is not produced anymore.....that we have no control over. We have sold TONS of TC series units.....failure rate is still great for the units. Very few for every 100 sold, plus the industry as a whole as far as Tnetics are concerned.

We have had PTE's fail with just idle time .....so it happens to ALL brands. NOBODY makes a bulletproof turbo. Never will happen...

Dude if you bought it in Sept. it will be covered under warranty with Turbonetics still!!! Problem is you had someone else already take the unit apart . I heard Jose discuss this turbo, but he mentioned you said it was out of warranty. But if indeed it was in Sept.....PM me.....probably can get it taken care of.

He said he had a T76, not a TC unit. I certainly hope parts a still available for the TC series... i have one too. They just came out with a new TC-78 so I'd imagine it is still supported. I could be wrong though.. Dr. Turbo

Edit: in the time it took me to write this 4 posts popped up... hah
