Question 91mm on Built 346ci????

I was talking to my brother last night about building a street car what do you think ????

2002 1LE Camaro SS

Engine:
Fully built 346ci 9:0.1 Compresstion/ Turbo cam/ AFR or TFS 225 heads / LS6 Intake(or something bigger).

Trans and rear:
The car is an m6 with built T56, 9inch with 3.42 gears with 335/35/18
This car is built for street/highway runs and couple of track runs maybe low 10sec car.

CUstom build Turbo kit with 91mm turbo.
Is 91mm turbo too big for 346ci????

I told my brother is very big pepole are using it on 408+CI.

Will the car see full boost before 4500rpm???? shift point will be somewhere 6800-7000rpm.

Goal is to be close to 800rwhp on pump gas a very sick topend car to run bikes, low 10sec maybe 9sec car.
We will go bigger CI in the future and we dont want to change the turbo thats why we're going 91mm.

Any info or comments will help

S91 will suffer from lag on a 346ci. What's your target boost?

I will be using S85 on a built 347ci but it will have resized turbine exhaust housing as OFI recommended. Reason is that I can change only turbine housing if I put bigger motor.

I would say go for S80 for street car to get instant boost or better get in touch with forced inductions to get you a better selection.

If you had an auto behind that combo I'd say it'd do just fine on the street.

However supras are pushing 91's with almost half the diplacement.....you're gonna have to rev that 346 to 7,500 to make it worth your while.

if alls he wants is 800 i think a good 76mm with good heads and cam will make that, and spool really good to!!!! just depends on the power he wants to make and his goals!!!!!

T76 sized is all you need for you goals. A 91mm on that size engine / tranns setup is going to be a laggy SOB. Would need to be an auto to even think about streeting it.

he said 800whp pump gas so the 76 is outta the question. im sure hes talking 12-16 psi range. a 91mm would sick as ****, esp. if its going on the vette. i think that would **** everyone up.

I would run an 80mm,or a t4 flanged 88 at most, hard to spool the big turbos with a 6 speed and small cubes

Like I said before....an auto is gonna make the difference in that combo. I've seen over-turboed engines before on the street. On a manual trans you barely hit boost, then the tires break loose, then time to shift and that happens on every gear. 500-600 rpms of powerband is not very fun. Only time it will get up and go is in 5th gear. Meanwhile smaller combos are running away from you like a raped ape.

I'd keep it no more than an 88mm, and a t4 flange at that on a M6 346. It'll make great power and still spool. You just aren't gonna spool a t6 with that small of motor on a manual. Besides, an LS1 block distorts at the powerlevel either of those turbos are capable of. Better to just go up in cubes to a new block and run the bigger turbo.

x2, if i were to run a solid roller setup in my stock inch motor i would not hesitate to throw a 91 on my car. However a 6 speed is useless with a big turbo. throw a TH400 or the likes behind your motor and it would work much better

Haha I know that setup would dead hook on the street! I can only imagine trying to drive a 91MM turboed 346 with an m6 on the street...

just do a 408 with the 91mm and turn it down to have 800 RWHP. Its gonna cost the same for a more versatile set-up.

I have a 348ci with a large frame 88mm and it's laggy. To race on the highway (I am A3), if I really wanted to be ready I'd probably have to leave the car in 2nd so that it won't take too long for me to spool up the turbo. If I wacked it from 3rd it took a while to spool up the turbo.

For what you want, if you are dead set on a 91mm, you should run more cubes. If you are deadset on a 348ci, I'd run ~80mm turbo but I'd research what folks are running and how they are performing.

I was kinda looking around for a GT55-91 to put on my car since it would fit, I wanted to see what it would do but it might take a long time to spool it up. On the street it would be super laggy unless I was always prowling around at 4000 rpms.

91mm will work with a 346 providing the heads/cam/intake are up to par. trans is not an issue it will spool at X rpm whether u have a manual or an auto. the turbo dont care what u have for a drivetrain....

Thanks a lot for replies guys.

He is not planning to run th400 any time soon the car have less than 40k miles and will be garage queen we're trying to buy another 99Z28 for race car build.
Do you think it will help to spool faster if We ran 9:5.1 compresstion????

the highest boost we're plannng to run is 16-17psi with race gas and 13psi on 93octane.

Just talked to my brother and he really wants to try this setup since no one ever done it on 346-348ci before and he's very sure the car will be laggy SOB but wants to know how laggy!!! hehehe

I will let you guys know if he's going witht he setup and will post some pics of the build.
