Holla if you are running a FAST system...
Please post if you have one and whether you are using the Cartek crank sensor box or an externally mounted MSD crank trigger...
Me...
FAST bank to bank system
Cartek crank box
Not yet running but all wired up

Re: Holla if you are running a FAST system...
Why wouldn't it work on a street car. A Crank Trigger is so simple there is almost nothing to go wrong if its setup properly.
To me If I were going to a FAST system on my LS1 car (Have a Sequential FAST on my LT1), I wouldn't do it any other way, Crank Trigger, a Correct Cam Sync, and you can run a completely correct SEFI system w/ eDist.
Correct me if I'm wrong but doesn't Cartek's Box only allow you to utilize the fueling segment of the FAST system? Something I thought I saw on this board.
Running the above combination though it may be more expensive, would be a much better standalone option.

Kurtis, did I miss something, you have FAST on an LS1? Cool, how is that external crank trigger mounted, was it difficutlt to true stuff up?
The Cartk box in fact just allows one to control fueling, so right now I am not running an EDist box and I am controlling the timing thru LS1 Edit.
I'd like to get rid of the factory harness and pcm but I'd rather have someone make a second gen Cartek box that phased the cam and crank sensors so I can do that... Dave??? Julio????

Re: Holla if you are running a FAST system...
Sorry John, Re-Read my initial post, If I were to do a FAST on my LS1.....
I have a Sequential FAST w/ ICC on my LT1 car.
You just confirmed what I heard. That being the case, hands down, I would use a crank trigger, and w/ a Cam Sensor (may need to look into weather the OEM Cam Sync will work, Anyone?), and the eDist box you can get around the Bandaid of having to use seperate ECUs to control the tuning. To me it would never be right until you have everything consolidated into the FAST system.
Getting rid of the OEM PCM/Harness is VERY nice as mine is that way in the 97, the only draw back, is now you're adding the cost of all new Guages also. I admit I haven't tackled this on the LS1 car, but most of its common sense. If you went w/ the complete setup I listed above, you could still use the PCM, and keep most of your guages, possibly just losing the tach (though I'm sure you have an aftermarket unit for that anyways....
I saw your post on Turbobuick.com, did you ever get that sorted out?

How is your crank trigger setup Kurt? Jim do you have an external crank trigger setup too?
I'd for sure like to remove the factory system and adding some gauges does not bother me.

My system is just piggybacked onto the stock harness/ecu. It uses the crank signal from the optispark (which seems to be working fine).
I also agree that an external crank trigger would be the way to go with an LS1/FAST. It's nice to be able to control timing vs rpm vs boost rather than just timing vs rpm.

Re: Holla if you are running a FAST system...
I'm just using an MSD Crank Trigger wheel modified abit since its meant for regular ole SBCs, and an MSD Crank Trigger Distributor w/ Built-In Cam Sync Sensor. The Crank Trigger itself is nearly a bolt on, but thats for the LT1. The LS1 would require its own way of mounting the Pickup sensor. This is stuff I have no doubt Chris S. is capable of handling for ya.
Pretty Simple Setup for me really. Haven't figured out why more people haven't gone this route on the LT1 cars... Even for a B2B system, it completely gets rid of the Opti.
Chris' car is so close to being able to do this same thing Since he already has the small Diameter Dist. behind the Intake, and he could have saved himself the trouble of using the opti after modifying it. Just by adding the Crank Trigger, and switching the FAST box to IPU.

Re: Holla if you are running a FAST system...
Madman, MTI and Wheel to Wheel have set up MSD crank trigger setups it takes a bit of work to get it all to work. I think most of the setups mount on the front of the oil pan and work of a ring added to the back of the dampner.
I'd rather have an electronic solution than a mechanical solution.
