Haider the motor wasn't that smoky before, but it became smoky as of late.

Okay so what I learned from my calls:

...Oil pressure for turbo feeds can be restricted, but you would need to ask around and see what's reasonable. Found that keeping it above 10 psi is reccomended. Restricting at the engine is reccomended.
...-12 oil drain is reccomended.
...If your turbo has pushed oil past the seals, you don't have to right away send it off to inspection and repair. If you can fix the pressure/draining issue try that first.
...It was suggested that I clean out the intercooler as there might be oil in there.
...Folks reccomend that the oil drain line be vertical coming out of the turbo.

tired engine -> pressure in the pan -> oil backs up in turbo -> oil gets past both seals -> smoky time.

talk to Schantin up here, he knows about the scavenge pumps and such. There is actually a scavenge pump that porsche uses and Schantin posted it somewhere. The one posted here is also a good pump

Okay looks like I might be able to get a shortblock done before Memphis, I'll know by end of day tomorrow if it can all come together, but it looks very promising. Weber Racing is potentially willing to burn some midnite oil to get a particular combo out to me.

i can get a 4 bolt done in a couple days and i honestly am preferring an ERL type block for a 6 bolt setup but I don't think I can get one of those blocks turned around and built fast enuff... I heard that some folks have charged as much as $1800 to machine an LSX block eesh.

*uck. Will cost me like $4K to swap out the shortblock just to make the LSX Shootout. I might as well just do the 6 bolt stuff.

I wouldn't bitch about spending $1800 to machine a block. The LSx will be stronger and make more power than the ERL. When the day is done the LSx and the ERL are about the same money with all the machine work but the LSx is stronger.

at a significant weight penalty though

with john's 867 RWHP...I don't think I'd be too worried about either setup

I didn't know much about how it cost to machine a block for a 7 or 8 second car, after talking to a few folks I see that $1500 would be dirt cheap for a 7 second car, some folks spend $5-6K.

Looks like an ERL would be 110 lbs lighter than an LSX.

My buddy is going to go leak down a few more cylinders based on some advice from Kurt Urban, and we'll see if this block is completely toast.

Way to kick a guy when he's down Brian, I look forward to picking up your scrawny balding *** and throwing it in a dumpester in Memphis. (ie **** you bitch).

pull a vacuum on the motor and you'll buy yourself more time

wasn't kicking anyone...theres a BIG difference in what you or I are doing vs. what the big boys are trying to do power wise...hey...the most my turbo made on the dyno was 500 rwhp

John,
Let kurt handle it and he will take care of you. There are alot of unsaid things that goes into machining an LSx block that Kurt knows and will take care of.
