oil drain scavenge pumps
I've been reading around, and think I might need one.
I see Tilton, Mocal, CarterRace and this one:
http://www.rbracing-rsr.com/oilsystems.htm
discussed on a few boards.
I'd have to run an electric one to get it done fast.
That article link is saying that some of the pumps that folks use are really not supposed to run hot oil.
So, what setups are guys running? I'll know for sure, but if I pushed out the front seal in the inlet side it would have to be an oil drain is my conclusion.
Thx budz

I was testing my car last night in 4th gear and the car started smoking I checked everything and it seems the scavenge pump stoped working or maybe it heated up
I changed the oil and the car is running fine again???
I'm running STS Pumps and only 15k miles on them.
Is my Scavenge pump dyning???
Sorry for going off topic John.

I'm running an expensive Mocal one, and it has been absolutely GREAT. It comes with a metal mounting bracket that has rubber boots on it, to keep vibration and sound down.
I put a small reservoir under my turbo drain to pool all the oil up before it went into the oil pump, to help keep the oil from backing up into the turbo....the small reservoir was only $100 to have custom fabricated.

On my brothers turbo mustang we were running into problems with our original scavenge pump. We would have bad oil smoke during startup due to excess oil accumulating in the return line after engine shutdown. We switched pumps to one that was specicially designed for oil and put the scavenge pump on a turbo timer which switches off 10 seconds after engine shutdown and the problem is gone.

My bud is going to leak it down for me, so we can see if that's an underlying problem. Was told if it leaks down bad, too much pressure is getting past the rings and into the pan, and pushing up thru the -10 drain line and then backing up the oil in the turbo... Sound about right? We'll see, the motor is a few years old but doesn't have a lot of passes on it. My friend said it was leaking from both seals so it could be that the engine is tired but I'll know by tonight.
If it leaks down decent, I'm still planning to buy an electric scavenge pump for the drain line and look at some basic things to help with vacuum.

Still wouldn't think you would need a scavenge pump but I have a new electric pump and harness/fittings that was included with my APS system if you're interested.

I called around and did some research, and Kurt reccomended a -12 drain, and running a restrictor if the oil pressure is on the high side. Alex from PTE suggested checking to see if too much pressure is getting into the pan.
Sounds like the leak down numbers so far are not so hot.
Thanks for the offer Jim.
