Thanks Zach, now I feel better. You should be a motivational coach.

Not much more to say at this point. Block is tired or broke, turbo is broke. Formula > PSJ.

Yeah Kyle, see you there.

I have some pics to post, some of the internal cast iron structure of the turbo is broken.

We talked and he said it's the older design, and they are known for having the stub shafts break. Given the damage, and the $1000 cost for a new cartridge, I don't plan to fix it out of my pocket.

dont forget also that if the oil pressure is high enough that it will bypass the filter and could let contanimates through and into the turbo...just a thought

True, like if I had broken something and material went through the engine, it could wreak havoc on the turbo. I know of someone who lost a few turbos that way one weekend.

In the end it looks like the issue is the turbo not taking the power. Thanks guys.

Wink

Well it makes sense, everytime I tried to run big boost I broke it, both times.

Oh well life moves on, I have an LSX block here and 6 bolt TFS heads. I'm waiting on some rule clarifications from a local racing series, and then I will make my move. If they allow twins I'll do that, if they only allow a single I'll focus on that.

I guess the lesson learned is watch out, there are a lot of gt47-88's out there and some are for 800hp and some are for 1200. looks like i was trying to make 900rwhp or more with the 800hp one.

I'll start a new thread when I decide what I'm doing.

Was talking to one of the PTE guys for a while, he felt that the turbo croaked from being over spun and that the backpressure might have been way too high. Given that I was only running a 348ci, I'd say those guys running GT47-88's with 348-408ci setups might want to call over there and see what they say regarding backpressure. Seemed to be saying that I would have been okay with smaller cubes but heck that's like running a darn 5.3 truck motor.

348 and a 92mm UHP turbine does not have unreasonable backpressure problems, not at 800rwhp. Heck the small turbine units we build for alot of the V8 guys don't break like that.

Not sure if you answered before, but is yours a T4 or T6?

T6. Check your part number and make sure you can push that one hard.

So have you removed the turbine shaft ??

Has it seized ?? Are there signs of lack of oil ??

Or has the shaft simply broken at the compressor wheel ?

Easy way to know.......

If you can see the shaft through the top of the compressor wheel your fine. If not, then your running a stub shaft.
