Yeah it blew off in the burnout box, very clearly. It broke during the run well before the 1/8th. Pulled hard for a split second and then fell on it's face.

why not go with one of the FI-X units?...should be easier to fit unless you planning on redoing everything?

Brian, there is a local class (8.20 cap) that requires an 88mm inlet, so an 88/___ hybrid is the way to go per Jose.

I can't fit a bigger turbo with my current setup, that wasn't my plan a couple of years when I had the kit built.

I'd buy a 88/xx hybrid if you would make one but it didn't sound like Jose makes those.

I'm turning sour grapes into wine at this point. My 25.5 conversion has been going for the last week a lot of it's done. I'm looking forward to checking all the cool drag radial cars and other FI cars at the shootout, and learning from the guys who are going fast regarding a/w intercoolers and all that good stuff.

Wow, I just noticed this thread. I'm going to check mine, but I'm pretty sure I have the old version. I'm pushing it a lot harder than you were John, no issues yet. Exact same size motor, 348cid (4.035x3.40).

Too bad we never got our race off

No idea why it broke, backpressure was raised as a concern but not worth speculating about anymore I'm not going to run that combo anymore.

As for racing, drag your junk here I'm not that interested in going there except for a UofM game.

I know I'm opening the tomb, but I just had my pte88 die on me and it was only six months old with less than 20 miles on it. It never saw over 6 pounds of boost and just died all of a sudden. I haven't been able to figure out why it locked up cause it was getting plenty of oil. It has a -4 feed line and a -10 return. I removed it and it still looks brand new. It sucks because I waited six months to get this thing installed and then it dies within a couple of weeks, wtf very wierd.

Well, I think the pervading opinion is that I had a GT47-88 with the small shaft. I've been told there are many different GT47-88's. I sold my kit and the guy I sold it to is running fine.

I sold my broken turbo to Josh as a mockup so maybe he will post up what he thinks broke.

I got out of the big power turbo game because I don't have the time to keep up with a combo like this anymore but I still greatly enjoy the turbo and blower scene, and will probably do a new blower combo on a car or two.

My 47-88 has held up great so far, mine is the older shaft version. 1000hp with ease on the old motor, we are going to crank it up on the new one.
We had a similar problem with a PT88 a couple of months ago. Brand new and it wasted itself. Looked like the nut came off, and beat the hell out of the impeller.
Precision did warranty it.

Well I'm hoping to get the same warranty, this was a brand new unit purchased from forced inductions (great guys). I shipped it out to them yesterday, so hopefully once they get it they can shed some light on what the problem was.

Kurt U. and Don B. (tuner) point to oil draining issues, I'm curious if anyone has some more thoughts on this.

Hey Neil, if you see the thread and are around, can you describe what the damage is in the turbo?
John, I didnt see anyone answer up to this thread and I know I am not a builder.. but you are familiar with my setup, a PT-88 midframe behind a 408 rearmounted... Backpressure isnt killing us (yet), so I would find it difficult to think that it would be your issue with cubes and a large frame turbo.

*edit* Sheit... I didnt notice the date on this old thread till now... sorry!

Yes, this one was awakened from the dead when my pt88 decided to go south. Just looking for some answers or clues to why a brand new unit would fail.

Great!!! This is starting to get me spooked!! I bought a PT76GTS as sugested for a rear mount on a 346 that was going to go to a 427. Wound up building a 408 and was told the 76 would not work!? So now I sold it (for a loss) and bought a GT88 (was instructed would be perfect) and now I see these issues!!! WTF!!! So have I been scammed?

800 rwhp is the target. What ar do you have? How fast does it spool for you? What size piping are you running for the air going up front? I am running 2.5" to the front mount intercooler then 3" out of the intercooler. I have a 38mm blowoff, I am thinking of upsizing it.
