another vote for h/c for reliability..... with your planned budget, if something goes wrong then you will be out of a car and out of money.

i vote for turbo, once he rips the engine open (heads / cam) it will never be the same, if you dont half *** your setup, and run safe boost, a stock engine will make good power, get great gas millage, drive like stock, etc, the sound and feel of a turbo spooling is unbeatable

turbo kit on a stock car will only put you 400-430 whp with a m6 with safe boost and that is super eazy with H/C hell i have installed prc 5.3 head and T2/ms3 cams together and put down 440-460whp super safe and dont have to worry about blowing you motor up with boost

well my car must suck because i get like 18-20mpg at the moment mixed driving stock! I dont want any driveability issues, and i dont want my car to be too loud! Everyone claims with a stock car 8psi or less is safe and makes good power.

I have seen a few #7 cylinder go on 8psi and they drove around on 5psi mostly and when they would race they would go up to 8 using the alcohol/meth. Still blew up. To me its a gamble on stock pistons

Tell that to the dozens of stock car owners with FI that I have tuned that made 475-600 and (except for one) have lasted for the long haul...

For around $3,000? And for most people with basic kits only put down the #'s i said. Your basic 5psi kit will add around 100hp. One of the sts kit i installed with t67 upgrade and intercooler only put down 429whp with a N/A 224 cam, stock heads with new springs and headers @5psi. Hell he made 370whp b4 the turbo kit.

I heard stock manifolds are better, it keeps the heat in in which helps spool the turbo. maybe thats why it didnt make as much. .

sure that's fine, but you just said turbo kit. I have the PTK kit that this 'ebay kit' discussed in this thread is based on. I made 595 @ 10psi, and run 16psi regularly, though this isn't a stock engine...

Well i also dont want to blow up my motor or anything, i dont need 500rwhp, right away, i plan on building the car up little by little to handle more boost, so im not going to push my luck at all with alot of boost my car is stock, im about go put a clutch in thats it for until spring.

If you are asking to buy a F/I kit on a 3K budget you need to stop right there. Your best bet is to go heads and cam, or just cam only and save to do it right. Not saying you can't do it but the smart thing would be to wait till you got more.

I have run several cars on stock internals and did just fine. My C5 made 8-10 lbs with my procharger and even hit 13#'s on the dyno a few times. I put over 15,000 miles on it before i traded it in a few years back on a new C6 (biggest mistake I ever made). You can run on a stock block for a bit, but it depends on your driving habits. If you are getting less then 20MPG it sounds like you are revving it pretty high before shifts and not using your gears efficiantly and with F/I it will not last like that on a stock short block among other things. I average 15-25 MPG if your easy with your foot you can go pretty far. My C5 got 25-32MPG with teh Procharger (501RWHP) and my last 2 maggies got me 22-26MPG on the C6 (480RWHP @ 5lbs) and SS (525 @ 9lbs). If you are not willing to push any F/I setup to go over 450RWHP do not even bother IMO. You'll want to push it later and I hate to see countless people loose thier short block and have to use the credit card or loans to keep thier daily driver on the road.

I want another F/I setup as well, but at a minimum a kit will cost you 1.5x's the kits actual cost. 2x's if you plan on going over 500 RWHP and after that well it adds up really fast. Unless you can install and tune your gonna blow that budget quick even with a good H/C setup.

Well i think my car needs 02 sensors that probly why the gas mileage isnt the best, and im from ny so my gas blend probly has some winter additive stuff, idk my car is as stock as you can find at the moment.........i only rev to like 2k when i shift driving normal. I dont drive my car to work currently, but i do drive it around everyday when i get bored and want to cruise a little so to make good power with a cam the car will probly end up not as streetable. I also dont want it to be overly loud and wake up my neighbors when i come home late.

If you go with one of the smaller turbo combinations like a T60 you might not make huge peak horsepower numbers but you'll make alot of torque and horsepower in the lower rpm and midrange. A small turbo is alot of fun the car pulls hard and feels like a much larger motor.

Maybe someone can answer if the right head/cam is comparable in torque and horsewpower in the low and mid area.
