fuel pump failing every 3 months
I put in a walboro 225 fuel pump for my new set up and ive been through 2 and on my 3rd right now, Anyone know why these pumps are failing every 3 months? Also changed fuel filter at install of 1st pump. Car is a 00 Trans AM.

A lot of it is due to the install method. If you are not using the factory venturi setup, you can be overheating your pump.
A hot wire kit helps to supply the proper voltage & will actually lessen the load on the pump.
Be careful where you buy pumps as there are a lot of counterfeit pumps out there.
Always use a new sock so the pump does not ingest any dirt.

My girlfriend's 98 is doing the same thing- ate 1 255lph, and its on the second 340lph. I did changethe sock yesterday to see if that was it. It ran pretty good today, but after I floor it, it starts hesitating and cutting out, then regains itself. AutoZone said it may bethe Throttle position sensor or the regulator. He siad its unlikely its the regulator but the pump could be overpowering it. She has 8 codes she just got it scanned, and she is going to call me in a minute with them. If its the Walbro again, I am going with a stock setup.

I think it is the small black rubber piece in the bottom of the module. It has a tip pointing to the bottom of the tank and is lifted slightly when module is installed in tank. To allow fuel to fill the module cavitiy to submerge the fuel pump in fuel to help cool? Can this be removed if your strainer is too thick to allow the rubber piece too lift? To help fill the module?

Melissa had the codes read at Autozone- here is what it said:
PO133, PO134, PO135, PO153, PO154, PO155, P1153.
This is telling me it is either a fuel problem or it is both oxygen sensors. I took today off and drove the car- drove really good, except when I floored it and it started to stumble. then it recovered perfectly. ????

If the pump is going out, it will go for a certain amount of time, the just totally crap out on you. After some cool down time it wil run again but crap out again, etc, etc...

Fuel filter is about a year old. We replaced the hose inside the tank again to be sure. And the sock yesterday. She hasnt let it get below 10 gallons low between fillups. Am pretty sure its the pump starting to fail: in any case we will just get a whole assembly from checker since she wont do any more mods to the car. The O2s are a little over a year old too

Do you think it may be the regulator? The walbro I installed in January. Everything seemed to be ok until this last week. I havent tested the fuel pressure yet. need a testor; will prob go and see if AZ has one

Did you use 02 extensions?? I was reading where poeple just cut and spliced into the wires to make them longer and started throwing codes.. The 02's read in Milli Volts so in kind of interference willl screw the readings up.

yes we used 02 extensions. Ordered them from Summit I believe. When we put the headers on, ran it without O2s home from the shop (this was like 4 years ago). Car would stumble like crazy, but then would go into safe mode and drive just fine. Symptoms were different. This acts like its eitehr running too rich or running out of fuel.

When your walbro went out the last time, how did it act? I am pretty sure the pump is going out. Did you have codes also? The O2s are about a year old and hate to have to replace them and find out they were ok

I did hear the some Japanese company was selling knock off Walbro's.

That's pretty much what happened to mine on the last pump. It would start, die, move a few feet, etc. Then finally had to tow it to my uncle's shop. He said one of the return hoses was cracked so he replaced it. 98s have a return setup. I drove it home and it was fine. The next day after the car was warm it started doing it all over again. But not so severe. i replaced the pump, and it was fine. As I remember, it had similar codes to what it has now with the O2s, then after the pump install (current one) the ses went away. It came back a few months later. I wonder if there is something wrong with these pumps ie I got a line of these knock offs. I will try a fuel pressure tester and see what the pressure is holding. Seems to act up when its hot or been running for a while. Would the O2s cause a drop in fuel pressure? If that is what it is, I know for sure its the pump and not the regulator or O2s

When I got the car back to the house it started up fine.. Once it warmed up the fuel pressure was dropping, 55, 50, 45, 40, etc... Car start to stumble then die. I have a pressure guage on the rail and thats how I knew I had fuel pump issues. I didnt throw any codes though.
