Brass nipple on stock pump

Brass nipple on stock pump what the hell is this brass nipple and where does the connected hard plastic line lead too?

i replaced my stock pump with a wablro 255 which did not have this nipple.... i dont remember how I resolved this.
anyone??? here is a pic of the gas tank if that helps
