Default Weird Fuel gauge needle problem

Okay I have a 2001 camaro LS1. Car has a weird problem that involves the needle on the fuel gauge. I usually only put in about 3-5 gallons of gas because I hardly ever drive the car except on nice weekends. Well its been well over a year since I've put more than half a tank of gas in the car but yesterday I did because I needed to drive into Houston. As I was driving I noticed my fuel gauge needle was moving towards full instead of empty. When I turn the car off the gauge goes down like normal and when I crank the car up it's now showing i have almost a full tank and I drove over 100 miles. Everything is stock on the fuel system except for bigger injectors.

Does anybody have this same problem??? I have no other issues except for this. Car still drives great!!

Every Chevy Ive ever owned has had issues with the fuel gauge, Ive had 3 s10s and they all did the same ****. The one I have now bounces around all over the place, the only way I know my tank is gettin dry is based on mileage. My fbody doesnt have any issues yet...its only got 40k miles though lol

but I never had any issues until I put this half tank of gas in yesterday. Now it says i have almost half a tank in my car. I always read by mileage so I don't run out!

Could it have something to do with the gas tank itself? Like the floater that reads how much you have in there?

I'm having the same problem myself right now on my 3.8.. Problem started about a month ago where I'd have a full tank, and it would just drop to empty and the check gauges light would come on, now it just never reads right at all.. I've put 150 miles on this tank and its still showing a full tank.. I guess our cars are going green?

The fuel sending unit is in the tank so you half to drop the tank or cut a hole to change it.

My 2001 SS just started this problem. As of yesterday on my way to work I had between 1/2 and 3/4 of a tank. Then on my way home the gauge said I have 3/4 of a tank. Then later that night and this morning the gauge is reading between 3/4 and Full. I hooked up a Tech 2 because I known GM has cluster and gauge problems. My camaro has 42k miles. But I'm having the same issue with the level going up and up and I haven't even put gas in the car. I think I'm going to just replace the whole fuel pump because I don't want to replace the level sensor then a few months down the road the fuel pump ***** out.
