Default 00 Plastic gas tank.....Will it work with a 98?

I have access to a plastic 00 tank, from what I understand is quite a bit lighter than the metal 98 tanks. Direct swap w/ the fuel pumps?

From what I recall it is NOT a direct swap. The pumps are alot different. But I don't see why you couldn't run an aftermarket pump inline or something.

I'm curioius also what the weight drop would be. ANYBODY?

Scott, i've been told it's a 30 lbs difference

Dunno the truth to that, but it'd be nice if so. I don't see why it wouldn't be a direct swap. I've pulled 99+ assemblies before, looks like you'd just pull the 00 pump out and slide in the 98 pump assembly. Everything else should be the same I'm assuming. I haven't pulled mine yet....Maybe i'm wrong?

From what I remember I thought is was 18lbs, but not sure. I think Tom the Roofer looked into this a long time ago and made a post about it.

But I'm ready to swap out also since I want to add a bigger pump for N20, now would be the time.

Even if its only 18lbs, thats a bargain as far as weight savings goes, IMO.

Anybody else tried this?

I know its lighter, thats about all I know. May use a different sending unit ohm resistance to the fuel guage between the different years.

Default Fuel Tank Swap

You might want to call Caspers Electronics, they deal with alot of the GM electrical connectors and mods. There is a member here who has a website the talks about a similar conversion, i think a 94 firebird V6 receiving a LS1 transplant, dash and he talks about the fuel sending units and gas tanks.
