Default Filter with E85

I am getting ready to upgrade my fuel system with -8 feed, rails, and 127# Bosch injectors. I have been trying to decide what filter I need to run. I have read all over the place where people say it HAS to be a mesh screen filter. A select few seem to be running any old filter with their setups. Right now I am on the stock style filter and have noticed no problems. Is there a reason why I need to spend $80 on a fuel filter? Would any inline 10 micron filter work for me as long as the element is changed out every few thousand miles? I don't want to jeopardize possibly ruining $900 injectors with a filter that wont catch everything, or one that may breakdown.

Any help and suggestions is greatly appreciated.

Paper/cellulose type elements can deteriorate from alcohol.
Use mesh stainless or a fiberglass element 10 micron or finer.

A restricted injector will only melt a piston, so $80 seems like cheap insurance.

I have these in stock if interested.

So I can pick up the 3 inch element -8 filter, then get one of these to throw in it?

You can buy it that way. Get the longer one for extended service life if you can fit it though. Talk to your turbo guy

I will be running the 82832 Fuel Lab

6 micron
8AN Inlet/Outlet
Fiberglass Element.


Some people are changing the filter after the first few tanks of e85 since supposedly it starts to break down any crap that was already in there.

I have seen several threads showing people cutting into paper filters they used for years around 3000-4000 miles that looked like new. I say better safe than sorry though, let them risk it to find out. Fact is its corrosive, and I want something better than paper as a barrier between harmful contaminants and my high dollar fuel system. As lonnie said, cheap insurance.
