Default Installed Injectors Today ...

Well, I got the 28.8# injectors w/rail today. I went out prepared to do a 30 minutes install and 1 1/2 hours later, they were done ... go figure that. That fule line was a real monkey to get off, but with a small jewellers screwdriver, the detents pushed back and the fitting slid right off.

I re-installed the fuel pump fuse and re-connected the negative lead on the battery .... turn the switch on for 5 seconds ... did this several times and cranked it up. Then, I checked it for leaks and went for a test drive.

Above 4000 rpm's, it felt crisp and clean. The surging at high rpm's went away completely and restrictive feeling went away, as well. I bought the Texas Speed $60.00 injectors/rail set. The receipt says they are Bosch injectors.

Anyway, I don't know if the injectors netted me anymore max RWHP or RWTQ, however, I like the feel of the car now at high rpm's. If I replace the NGK TR-6's with the new NGK TR-55 plugs, will this help my car or hurt it?

Did you re-tune the car after the injectors? I will be doing this swap this weekend along with my intake. I just don't know if I can drive it with the bigger injectors for a week until I get tuned, or if I should install the intake, then wait on the injectors until I get to the place where I'm going to tune.

Default To tune or not to tune.

No, I didn't re-tune just to go from the 26# injectors to the 28.8# injectors. I really didn't see a need to, since the car seems to be running better-than-ever. If you were to go to a higher capacity injector ... then a good tuner might tell you to have your current tune adjusted slightly. With an intake swap, I think I would definitely have it tuned to achieve maximum performance.

Not knowing much about tuning, this is just my personal view. If you're swapping both, I would re-tune if I could get it done at a reasonable price. I think the PCM probably adapts to minor changes where A/F is concerned, but, like I say, you'd really have to ask a tuner. You might want to defer this question to TimZ28. Just PM him and he'll be happy to advise, I'm sure. He is a tuner who would tell you the importance of having your car tuned and he can also tell of any negative effects of not having it tuned with these changes.

You may see the tune (in the closed-loop regions)
drift for a while as it learns the new injectors' flow
effect back out. In general you should see a 9%
enrichment effect. That means if you had any
positive trims and any lean problems at WOT, it
might get better. And certainly if you had any
injector balance issues (the stockers now being 5
years' worth of crusty) the new virgins will party
better. But once things are bedded in you may be
a bit fatter at WOT than ideal. Wait and see,
after the new mod euphoria wears off

Glad you received the injectors & installed them!!

We've done mail order tunes for several of the guys getting injectors for their 99-00 cars. The A/F will definately be a bit on the rich side. Haven't some of the guys gutted their maf to offset the bigger injectors? Does that really work?

Default Hey Jason

Yeah, I'm very happy with the injectors ... what a bitch to get that fuel line fitting off the old rail ... hehehe! Man, I didn't know it took a special tool and I ended up jimmying it off using a jeweller's screwdriver to push each of the four metal detents back off that fuel line lip ... finally got it, though.

If I hand port my throttle body, will it lean out the A/F richness caused by the new injectors at WOT? It feels great, however, I can smell the richness at all rpm ranges ... or, at least that's what it smells like to me.

$4 quick-connect tool from NAPA, AutoZone, etc. makes that fuel line a breeze to remove...
