Default fuel return required?

I have a 2000 5.3 that i am using a new summit intake, fuel rails and throttle body and then i got their LS Swap fuel pump kit. It comes with a fuel pump, filter and hose but it is for a returnless setup. I have an aftermarket fuel cell and am taking out a standard SBC and swaping in this LS. Do i need to run a return line to the tank? if so does it need to be 3/8"?
Thanks for your time.

I like return systems because they reduce dead-heading the electric pumps as much and help them run cooler.. The LS motors came both ways... AS long as set up properly with whatever regulator and pump setup your using it should work fine either way.

I'm guessing u have the summit kit that comes with a corvette filter/regulator kit. IF so u will feed one side of that regulator, thin it has a return line to the tank. the other single side out of the regulator feeds to the engine.

ls engines around 2003 went to the returnless fuel rail setup.

With your engine being a 2000 5.3 it should have the return style fuel rails from the factory with a regulator built in. So with this being said if u want u can keep the factory fuel rail setup u can. Just run a feed from your pump to the top feed line and return from bottom rail to tank. this is the most simple way of doing it. Done this on a lot of ls swaps. same way they came from the factory.

Fitting for the stock rails are 3/8" feed and 5/16" return. Russel makes adapters for these that converts them to -6 fuel line. Around $30 bucks form summit.

brandon6.0 you are correct, i just read the info on this. it is like the corvette style. So with that said, i also bought the summit sheet metal intake, 95mm throttle body and fuel rails.

ok well u would run that corvette regulator instead. The most simple way of doing this is to feed into the regulator, with return back to the tank. Thin I would add a y fitting up near the fuel rails and feed into the back of each rail. U can choose to block off the front side on both rails or add a crossover. Your choose. Post pics once done. Should be a nice looking setup.

This is true to my knowledge. I would lean towards a return style system when possible. Also, some that appear returnless at the rail are actually return style systems, people mislabel them because the return loop may be under the car. An LS fbody is a perfect example, it dead heads the rails but there is a return T under the rear seat and that flows excess back to the tank.

You can see the LS return style t here in the upper left hand corner i removed from my car.

thank you for the info, I really appreciate your time to respond. I really like the idea of the y fitting. I think I will look at that, then just block off the two front ends.
