Default Walbro problem ... need advice

I posted in the fuel forum but there's more traffic here so I thought maybe someone can chime in

I installed the walbro 255 about a couple of days ago. First day, everything seemed fine (didn't even hear whining noise). Today, I try to start the car and it wouldn't fire up. I tried a couple of more times and it finally did. WHat the heck is going on ? Then when i finally do get to start, it whines like a **** during my drive.

The only thing that I did different was park the car on a little incline. WHy would that screw things up.

Any ideas ... suggestions ?

Hey Zolt, I think the pump might have to sit a little higher in the bucket. I don't think it should have been hitting the bottom of the tank like it did. Try raising the pump up a little bit so that the filter and pump aren't hitting the bottom. It might just behaving trouble sucking up the fuel.

Gev,
I was thinking the opposite. Lowering the pump more. Or else ... why would we have cut such huge holes in the carrier. But who knows. At this point .. I want my car back to stock. It's not even driveable now

the opposite would be impossible imo since the pump was already hitting the bottom. Don't sweat it dude we'll get it figured out. The problem is just the wiring. Which schmuck did it in the first place?

Unless you just dont have any fuel in the tank that probably not the problem. Sounds like you don't have a fuel pressure gauge? You are probably loosing fuel pressure over night. If that all it is just put the key in on for two or three seconds then start the car.

I had a walbro a while back.. yuk...

Look into the denso supra pump... Makes a walbro look like a POS...

Another bullet proof pump is the "big screen" bosch with the integral pickup doug rippie uses them on high power stuff....

Right now my pumps look like starter motors..

the wiring connection completely snapped and the bare wire got some fuel on it ? Is it damaged or do you think it's still possible to sollder and shrink wrap it ?

there I was on the side of the road trying to fix this damn thing. Forgot to crank the motor with the FP fuse out ... so of course fuel sprayed all over me

One of the problems is that the instructions told us to cut the wires in the middle and now they are not long enough. And as the fuel level drops ... the spring tension expands and that is why I think the wires snapped.

I'm going to get this thign fixed today. One question for you guys ... how far from the plastic bucket is your pump seated ? Does the end of the pump come through the plastic for you guys or did you leave it up in the plastic ?

I locked mine pickup in the fully extended position, so the pump is always at the bottom. The pump inlet is just inside the pump "bucket". Pump bucket is also drilled out pretty good so it does not starve. Also, as with stock never run less than 1/4 tank of gas, its bad news for the pump.
