LT1Newbie,
What mods did you perform?
Some mods (intake and exhaust) improve fuel mileage.

No offense, but if those are the mods that you did, they alone can explain your fuel mileage increase.

I've had this link saved for a while so the prices may not be relevant anymore but it's a good reference for the octane boost.

Note that some solvents are not good for seals in your fuel system.

This stuff will take a toll on your injectors eventually, so make sure you have them serviced regularly if you use these add's.

Digging up an old post again

I recently read about this and I'm going to try acetone in our POS subaru that me and my wife commute to work in. If it blows, I'm out $800 (yeah, that's what I paid for the car ....and it gets 33mpg)

I used to run toluene in my cavalier (turbocharged), and it worked good.....except for the 2 o2 sensors i killed within 1 summer.

Toluene and Xylene are for raising octane. They did not kill your O2 sensors by the way, they are both found in premium gas anyway. Acetone is supposed to improve mileage unlike the other two.

I recently tried the acetone in my tank last night. I saw my fuel trims almost immediately fall to -12 or so, but then slowly climb back up to about -8. This morning on my 40 mile commute my LTFTs allwent back to 0, which is where they are without acetone. I guess that the ethanol thats required in all pump gas around here is counteracting the acetone as it mixes in the tank.

If you have any question as to Acetone being safe to put in your gas tank, go to the Berrymans Chemtool (a common fuel additive) web site and look at the material safety data sheets. Almost all of their products have acetone in them.

Acetone is oxygenated and light, so it will affect the
stoichiometry more by volume than heptane-range
(and heavier) straight chain or cyclic hydrocarbons.
Acetone wants an 11:1 AFR by itself. As to whether
it's a good idea beyond that, I couldn't say.

the down side to using acetone is that it takes away any sort of lubrication effect that reg fuel is going to provide.

I’m digging up an old thread...

So, for those that actually did mix acetone with their gas, you have had a few years to test it now. Do you still think it’s a good idea?

No real world advantages, but not harmful in such small quantities either.
