Question msd inline install

hey guys...I'm in the middle of installing my msd inline fuel pump and everything is hooked up fine. I just need to know the best place for ignition power so the pump turns on when my ignition is in the on position. Please let me know all the places that would be best to use besides the radio...Thanks for any help

i would find the low amperage power side of the stock fuel pump relay, and tapp into that for your own relay to the your msd inline pump, that way it turns on when your computer activates your stock own.

You can use the grey wire that's at the bulkhead connection just past the fuel filter to power a relay. It is the 12v line to the intank pump. Use it to close the relay and run a dedicated line to the alternator.

nice just what I needed to know...thanks a lot. I was going to just tap into this line and attatch it to the positive side and have the negative just grounded. is that a bad idea? how would you set it up?

You can't run both the stock pump and the inline pump off the factory line ...it maxes at 20 amps. You can tap the factory grey wire and run it to a relay....the relay is just a switch that closes when the wire gets a 12v signal. Then you have to wire from the alt to the pump with 10g wire through the relay...so you turn the key on....the relay closes...and the 12v from the alt passes to the pump and it runs...either that or substitute a manual switch for the relay and manually turn it on and off...but that bypasses the oil pressure senor safety set-up from the factory.

i am using a 40 amp relay and all of my connections are good but the problm is the grey wire i tapped into in the stock fuel pump relay does not give enough power to close the relay. The direct 12v source closes it fine but the one from the grey wire in the relay doesnt seem to have enough power to close it. It lights up my multimeter but cannot close the relay. What should I do?

Have you tryed it with the engine running? The 12v turns off just using the "key on" method after a couple of seconds to prime the pump.

Same theory Racetronix uses.

Look here for wiring a relay. Polarity right?
