Default Fuel Pump???Need help

I did a search about the Granatelli fuel pumps and I read some people saying you have to put a hole in the side of the fuel pump bucket??? Is this true? I know the Racetronix kit is a PNP. But I already have a Gran. And is there anybody on here who has the granatelli and hasnt put holes in the bucket? Also i thought the return line dumps into it...help please..

If you have a 1999 or later car you need the Racetronix system because +99 uses a siphon system to fill the pump bucket. You can hack the system by installing a new pump without the siphon, but you have to cut a hole in the bucket to feed the pump and lose all the benefits of the bucket.

What onfire said.

You'll have to mod the pump bucket for the Granatelli (Walbro) fuel pump. If you do install the Granatelli FP look into a hot wire kit.

this had been discussed many times before, and i don't mean to beat a dead horse, but really what adverse affects could hacking the bucket cause? and most of all are there ANY known cases of fuel starvation/adverse affects actually happening from hacking the bucket with the granetelli pump.

i ask this because i want to know how bad it really is to cut up the bucket, not how bad it sounds. i know it COULD cause bad things but HAS IT EVER actually happened to anybody on here?

tia.

also is a hotwire kit needed for the racetronix pump also?

Adding the Walbro pump will not hurt if it is done correctly. We have done it for years and not seen a problem. We mount the pump completly out the bottom of the bucket.

Here is a good thread to start: Link

I'm not trying to sound like an *** or anything, but if you cut apart your bucket and something "adverse" happened to your motor would you post about it? You might send the guy a PM but I'm not expecting a lot of people to post up. Is the Racetronix system more expensive then a Walbro pump? Yes. Does the Racetronix kit retain all the factory components that the GM engineers implemented in the pump bucket? Yes. It's in there for a reason.

The Racetronix kit comes with a hotwire.

Matt, you're right...most don't like to brag about bad results.

I do know a turbo guy that kept going lean right at the launch. The car leaves hard and it cavitated the pump pick up. Now he didn't lose an engine but did have to change out the system. He could have run a full tank of fuel but didn't want the extra weight.

You're taking a chance if you run a "hole in the bucket pump" and a low fuel level....that's one reason I like Nate's aluminum tanks.
