Default starting problem

I have a 98 z28, 105,000 miles, what happens when I go to start the engine is it usually doesn't fire up on the first crank. I turn off the key, try again, fires right up. One thing I noticed when changing the fuel filter was that there was no fuel pressure to release. I'm wondering if there is a check valve somewhere that maintains pressure to the fuel rail when the engine is off so that fuel is available when you start it? Anybody have suggestions?

Kinda late response but I have the same issue. When my car is cold, it cranks right up, but when warm for some reason it takes 2 cranks on occasions 3. I've been told that the there is a valve in our fuelpumps that causes this problem. Happens in Vettes as well.

Small fix: Turn the key twice like you and I have been doing.
Real Fix: New or upgraded Fuelpump.

im having the same issues with my 01 trans am. sometimes it fires right up and other times it takes me a couple minutes to get it started. it dosnt seem to be anything with turning the key, that dosnt seem to help. ive got a brand new fuel filter and new injectors in the car. is there anything besides the fuel pump that it could be??

Default Same problem, many possibilities

on a cold start, my 01 t/a requires me to press the gas pedal 15% to start and keep the rpms above 1k for five seconds before i can take my foot off the gas, (this started after the cam install) I think while having the key in the on position your oil and fuel pump begin to work and increase the pressure, probably why it works for you to start it

only thing i can think is that you have a leak somewhere and lose fuel pressure in the lines. It would still start with a bad maf. Shouldn't be the fuel pump if it start after a couple minutes, but you never know. My fuel pump went out at 10k before any modding, if it wasn't covered by warranty i would have replaced it with aftermarket. Im always skeptical about stock.

Hopefully someone with a bright idea can lend a helping hand. good luck

I had the same problem recently on my '99 TA. Turned out that my battery was weakening but not yet dead. My AMP meter was always way in to the right, on the charging battery side and not close to center like normal which made me suspect the battery. Autozone will test the battery for you for free. I replaced mine with a new Sears Die-Hard and it cranks everytime now. My particular car has always had weird electical issues though.
