Question Longer than normal crank time...

I wasn't sure where to post this. Hopefully someone can give me a little bit of advice.

Recently I added a Racetronix pump & wire kit, 30# svo injectors & had my car tuned. The car runs great!!!!

It seems like on cold starts, the car wants to crank longer than before. I don't need to crank it real long, but it is not "normal". I have tried priming it, by turning the key on & off a few times before crankning it. This seems to help. If I shut it off after driving it & then restart it, it is perfectly fine.

BTW, I put the pump in a week before the injectors & tune, it didn't have any problems starting after the pump install.

Anyone have this before, is it normal?

Thanks!!!

Jason

Have you checked the fuel pressure at the rail?

No, I'm going have track down a gauge this weekend. I hope the pump is fine!

and how do you check that? Just at idle, or is there a way to do it under load too?

You'd have to have gauge in the car to check it under load...

I'm just going to check it @ the rail w/ the key on & @ idle. I'm going to pull the in-line fuel filter tonight...

Umm, I am going to guess that the tuner did not tune your lower temps for the bigger injectors and it may be pumping in more fuel than you really need.

I have come to that same conclusion after starting it cold tonight and smelling the gas.

Try giving the car alittle peddle on the cold start. If it starts alot quicker it's the tune, not the pump.

It starts right away if you give it just a little peddle on cold starts. It smells the garage up something terrible though!!!!

Or find a crazy freind to sit under the open hood while you get on it down the street... Yep i had one of my ford buddies do this on a t-bird one time. He didnt beleive the pump he sold me was bad and tried everything else to fix the high RPM miss. Including watching the pressure gauge as i got on it down the street. Sure enough it lost pressure as RPMs climbed.

Make sure the motor mounts are good though as the motor torqued over and he almost fell in the gap next to the motor and inner fender! Ahhh the dumb stuff you do when your young!
