Default Did the Trap Door Mod (pics)

I was torn between dropping or cutting the trap door. I ended up cutting it. I was most hestiant because I thought for sure I'd cut a line or harness. There sure are some areas that you don't want to cut that is for sure.

These pictures are off of a 2000 TransAm (plastic tank / pump mounted at the rear of the deck area)

I thought I'd post it up since I had seen a few install notes but not all of them were clearly labeled. That is why you can see in the photo I thought the pump was towards the front instead of the trunk. It wasn't until after I made a few cuts that I realized I was cutting the wrong half. There are also some lines under there that are RIGHT UNDER the metal. I got really lucky with my horizontal cut and was about 1/8" under one or I would have been cutting the whole width with the line right under the dremel.

On my 2000 it is towards the trunk. Earlier models are more towards the rear seats from what I understand.

be sure to seal that panel permanatly with silicone or body seam sealer.water can enter under pressure while you are drive through even the tightest seam unless its sealed.exhaust fumes can too.Great job you did there!

Used a good bead of black RTV around the panel, let it setup a bit and then screwed it down.

I did mine this weekend as well. A few quick notes to help those who plan on doing the job this way

1: Jack up the rear of the car and get under there and loosen the bolts that holds the tank straps...that way the tank and all associated lines/wires are about 1/4" or more further down which makes it much less likely that you will cut into them with your dremel cutting wheel.

2: Don't cut all 4 sides of the square...leave the front attached and just bend it back (like the pictures above) I bent mine backdown when I was done...screwed 2 small metal braces to the front corners and then resealed the whole assembly with ultra copper.

I hope that someone finds this helpful

I have some pictures at home, but I'm not sure how to post them here.

Just a thought...be sure you don't put any screws where they're puncture/rub the fuel lines.

yeah.. if you see that picture with the cover you'll notice an area I had hoped to put a screw through but the fuel lines didn't permit it. Driver's side top.
