Car wont start plz help urgent!
Car wont start plz help urgent! ok guys my cousin and I were working on his camaro v6 by the way and well we thought the car had a bad fuel pump since the car hasnt been turned on or moved in almost a year and a half and well we replaced the fuel filter and emptied the gas but the car still wont start it cranks and u hear the fuel pump engage we just cant seem to get it to start . anyone think they can help me with this id really appreciate it. Thanx
Do a search for VATS...Vehicle Anti Theft System...I think it refers to.
It involves the little tab thats on your key...That little pellet is a resistor that when inserted into the ignition it bridges the contact between 2 VERY small/delicate wires.This allows the VATS system to read the resistance of the pellet on the key and in turn gives the "go ahead" if the resistance is correct.
If the key is old and/or damaged,the system might be getting an incorrect resistance reading and ends up locking you out as if your using the incorrect key...
Try a spare key for the car if you have it.If its the key,the spare should work.Or you will have to get another key cut with the correct resistance pellet from your dealer.

If the problem is deeper in the system,its most likely the delicate wires which you can end up replacing the whole ignition cylinder(plus keys) or you can bypass it using a spare key or resistors from Radio Shack (or similar store) that add up to the same resistance level as your original key's pellet.All this info should turn up on searches,including how to tell what resistance level your key pellet is using an OHM meter...
Of course this is all just a possibility,check all the usual suspects of course and if you do any of this stuff with the VATS,do so at yur own risk!!!!!!LOL!

true, i dunno if this applies to later model vehicles but cycle the key from off the the on position 3 or 4 times to prime the fuel system but you already probably took care of that with start attempts.
yea bro we tried prime it after we removed the old gas and we put new gas in we tried primeing it after that and still no go like i said u all think fuel treatment or fuel injection cleaner will help?
If it sat that long the injectors are prob beond inj. cleaner you can have them professionally cleaned or replace them. You are getting fuel to the rails? Check to be sure the lines are all free.

well the rails were getting fuel but it seems to be less and less so i dont know what else to do to the danm thing. if anyone has anymore ideas throw them my way and for those who posted thanx for the info .
You have to get a pressure gauge on it. Ohm the injectors and check them with a Noid light. with a car that has sat there are hundreds of things that can cause it to not start and if you are not sure and testing with the right equipment you will just be chasing your tail and replacing parts it does not need.
