Default Fuel Filter?

Hey all! Ive been having problems with my car starting. I took it in to the dealership and they replaced 2 fuel injectors but the problem still exists. I took it in again and they said that they couldnt find anything wrong with it. I told them to check the fuel filter for me, but I dont think they did. It has never been changed. Can anyone tell me where it is and how hard is it to replace myself?

the fuel filter is under the car back by the left rear wheel. they cost about $2.50 and take about 15 min. to change, you have to jack up the car. you need a screwdriver, pliers, and i think 2 wrenchs, i cant remember what size, probably metric. careful, a lot of fuel will come out when you take it off.

when you get it off you will notice how dirty gasoline really is, if it is really dirty you cant blow any air through the old filter. figures oil companies screw us with the prices and make gas that dirty.

you are supposed to change them about every 30k, but it wont hurt to let them go even twice as long.

Thanks Kevin! Ill probably try to get to this sometime this week. Ill post and let you know how it went and if it fixed my problem, which I HOPE it does. By the way... no one has ever told me to replace the fuel filter... my car has about 90K on it, so it is WAY past time for a change.

TTT and a question.... to relieve the pressure on the fuel rail I take off that cap on the right side and push a flathead down into it? Also, how much fuel am I expecting to lose by relieving the pressure this way?

It is really simple. I read that and went out to do it...took maybe 30 minutes the first time and then we did my friends in like 10-15 minutes.

And if it were me, I'd take back the injectors the stealership replaced and ask for the old ones back. I'd also request a refund of ALL labor, as the service manual states that any fuel pressure issues that appear should be DIAGNOSED by comparing pressure before and after changing the fuel filter.

Even if the injectors were sticking, fuel system cleaner (SEAFOAM!) likely would have cleared the deposits.

Ya got fu(ked, and not even a reacharound or a kiss.

Unscrew your fuel cap to release the pressure in the system. Have a small bucket and some rags ready. Some gas will spill out. Wear some gloves.

I wouldn't bother eating carcinogens. Just pop in a new one. Part + time is cheap for this fix.

You get what you pay for.
The government sets refining standards.
Research gasoline pricing thoroughly before you bandwagon up on this.

These definately do not get changed as often as they should, no question.

refining standards are among the lowest in the states where i live, yet the prices are slightly above average. we get screwed around here, and i have researched it.

You are right.

But other people might want to avoid getting cancer or having their kids end up with birth defects.

I'll try and keep my comments to myself; I am a jackass.
