As a streetable option/idea. An electric pump that feeds the mechanical pump. Where my idea differs would be to have a check valve off a tee. The electric pump feeding one port. Another port to the mechanical pump. And the last port to the check valve and the feed without a pump. I know that I have seen some huge -10 and -12 check valves that would work well.

This way the electric pump can prime the system and does not restrict flow to the mechanical pump once said pump starts to outflow the electric.

Just an idea.

here's where i am at so far. trying for something that will bolt to any ls block and any standard belt pump without having to buy their 'universal' bracketry.

Looks good so far. Appears to be close enough to block to where it would even clear a set of low turbo headers. Will this design be using a factory style belt? Eliminating the need for the mandrel would be a nice touch. Keep up the good work.

I personally don't want belt slip on my fuel pump, and would probably not even want my name on something that could cost someone an engine.

that being said. i think the gearing would be wrong having to run the pump at around half the crank speed would require a pulley with twice the circumference of the stock damper.

True, I didnt even think about pulley speeds, to focused on the mounting.

So what are you thinking for mounting the pump to the bracket. For example the Aeromotive pump is probably the most common I would think, which uses a slip collar design.

Let me know if I'm getting to far ahead.

i haven't touched it for the last few days, but i would prefer my design not need the extra $100 bracketry from the pump companies. as seen in that picture i am using existing threaded holes in the pump to mount direct to my tensioning bracket.

Ok I am getting my belt drive put together and I am having a problem with the pump pulley. No matter how hard I try I can't get it trued up on the shaft. If I spin the pump with my drill it has kind of a wobble. Is this normal?

Saves you some $ from buying the aeromotive tensioner.

I know David designed this for the aeromotive pump but you may be able to get it to work with a cable drive setup as well. My biggest concern with running a belt drive pump with my car is if its going to have a big enough downward slope from the tank to the pump to gravity feed it.

Sorry, I just saw your post.

These are the only pictures I have with the pump in place. The fuel pump is a buddies and I had to return it.

The only issue I had was the brackets touched the bottom of the pump, all I did was grab some spacers from ACE Hardware and it cleared. My waterpump isnt a FACTORY pump but is pretty much the same thing.

Thanks a lot, thats what I wanted to see. So just so I'm clear you stuck some spacers between the block and Daves bracket to move it out further from crank centerline? Right?

Correct, Im pretty sure David designed this around factory waterpump deminsions.

i remodeled it with more clearance in that area now, and if you needed to you could certainly trim the two brackets down to put it back tighter to the block (if it helped)
